ALW Picks The Songs But Then Criticises Songchoice
ArtyAttack

I noticed tonight that he let it slip earlier that he had picked a song for one of the contestants then later rather dismissively told both Tara and Jodie that they had the wrong songchoices. Must be a little annoying to both of them when they hadnt picked the songs at all.
Looks like the favourites of ALW will get the best songchoices.

Just the same as last year ... and I remember particularly him giving songs to a couple of the Joseph's that just weren't in their range/style and so they were never gonna carry them off - Anthony singing Patience and Ben singing Crying.

And it must be SOOO frustrating for the contestants. They can't say anything without a) pissing off the judges and b) sounding like they're making excuses.

Although I thought Francesca and Jessie did well tonight, it must be acknowledged that they had great songs to sing that showed off their talents.

Or giving Daniel Since You've Been Gone and All About You. Cos Kelly Clarkson and McFly songs will definately show who can cut it in the West End!!!

It makes no sense because he has been doing it since Maria when amongst other sins he gave Abi one song that had nothing to do with the requirements of Maria and was outside her range and almost everyone elses. He then commented that he had perhaps made a mistake - but only after a week of preparation, watching rehearsals and the judges critiquing the song for the rest of the series.

Fame Academy used to take great pains to try and get the right song choice, people changed songs they couldn't sing and key changes were made and remade until the songs worked. Here its either just unprofessional and people just get inappropriate songs (Amy last week even got the awful dress to match the song) or its designed to ensure that certain people do go out before the final.

I totally agree. Also, why was Jessie the only one who seemed to get special treatment by being shipped off to the Chicago set for some personal tuition? I like Jessie but I thought that screamed out favouritism by a mile.

Francesca I think had the most difficult job after last week, even though she did get one of the better songs.

A few of the songs seemed designed to trip people up - especially Keisha and Tara.

I also don't understand why JB criticised Samantha (wrongly imo) for not showing vulnerability in her song - but 'See the Day' is really not that type of song

Exactly. I think Daniel may have got the most votes in the first show last year and ALW then proceeded to do his best to sabotage him with poor songs. Maybe Jodie did too well in phone votes last week? She obviously isnt favoured by ALW.

Yes the McFly song had huge emotional depth to it ...

That's true - it might have been Daniel that said after the show had finished he found out that he had been in the top two every week except the week he was bottom ... which makes no sense - but then Evergreen plus his 'filing' VT was a nail in the coffin
