What's wrong with Jordan?

He can sing, dance, has good movement, is enthusiastic. I just don't get why people don't rate him higher.

I think the reason why I put Electricity just slightly ahead of Give a Little Love is that with Electricity, I can just listen to the vocals - with the Bugsy number the choreography & costumes make up the majority of the appeal. Still, very little to separate them though. And there's just so many things in Give a little love that I keep noticing new things every time I rewatch - Jonny's hat thingy in the first "da da da" bit, Alex's microphone hanging around his knees, Sam's taking off his hat in a really magician-esque way etc etc.


Yes! I've rewatched Chitty and maybe I was a bit harsh on Niamh because she does have a sort of sisterly vibe going - but there was just something special between them and Sarah. With Niamh I could tell that she had to really try to get herself into the character, while for Sarah it seemed absolutely effortless and came straight from the heart.


Ahh, I am in total agreement. I think he knew himself that it wasn't fantastic. I just wanted to go and give him a huge hug

Some of the youtube comments are seriously scary. If I were Jonny I'd be freaked out by all those hormone-raging 12 year olds lusting after him. Jonny does have the 'look' that draws you to him, though.

It seems we're (almost?) all in agreement here: either Gareth or Jonny should go through next week. It really is a shame they can't both go through. Oh dear, I'm going to have such a sob fest next Saturday

For me, it's too much. He does have a good voice but it's very staged and doesn't seem to come as naturally as it does to some of the other boys. I've yet to see a softer side to him. He is by no means the worst though; I think the three fighting for the final spot are Jonny, Jordan and Gareth, but I'd say Jonny and Gareth were a little furthur ahead. I suppse Jordan is a marmite kind of boy, you're either going to love him or hate him!

I really hope Jonny is the last oliver through
it's a shame this weeks the last place as jordan and gareth are good too.

Oh God yes! I think there was even someone on youtube pretending to be his girlfriend lol! The poor boy!

I also feel a bit annoyed on behalf of the other Oliver's whenever someone gets through there are about 500 comments (all in txt spk may I add) saying 'why did x get through? they are rubbish? Jonny should have got it'* Take Laurence's solo, he is so fantastic in it, but half the comments on youtube are 'OMG Jonny just blinked isn't he amazing? and fit, Jonny to win'. It's all a bit silly.



I like him, I just think he'd be a bit much if he was Oliver, he's almost too enthusiastic and confident for the role. I just couldn't ever imagine him singing 'Where is Love?'

I agree, I'm a big fan of Jonny's but those comments are just crazy! If you go on to an Oliver performance on YouTube you know the first page will have at least one comment regarding Jonny. It scares me when it's something like "1:31, look at Jonny nod!" and things, it's really not that amazing! I do agree with you, on a Saturday night after the next Oliver through has just been announced, there's a load of comments just stating that Jonny should have got through, I feel sorry for the boy actually through.

I think if we were 8 or 10 we would understand it......its just a little girls crush..........

Hehe . Totally agree with every word you're saying. When a rational person just dares to say "actually, there are others who are as good/better than Jonny..." they get crucified.

Re: Jordan - as Holly Oaks said aptly, he's a bit of a marmite boy. I can't deny that he is talented; he can sing and dance well. But it's all too staged, too much, too camp; I find him a little overpowering and everything becomes all too Jordanified. I also feel that we've only seen him give one interpretation of every song; with someone like Chester (sorry to keep harping on!) you can see the sensitive and soft side in Pie Jesu whilst seeing the playful & suave side in Give a Little Love. But as I say, I think he is good and if he gets the last spot I don't think it's a wrong choice.

I have to confess, a really evil part of me really doesn't want Jonny to get through and someone like Joseph to get the place instead, just so I can see the reaction on youtube hehe

It seems like people tend to forget that these are just boys who could be anybody's little brother or son or whatever. The adoration ('I love this or that') is more scary to an 11 or 12 year old than these people seem to realize. It's an attention that sometimes comes after an audition when the boy is properly prepared and looked after, not during one. And to hear when you are that young, and even younger in some cases, that you are rubbish at what you love to do, could seriously hurt your image of yourself.

I don't know why people write bad comments about some of these boys. What's the point? I have been in the business long enough to know that taking such a position, so as to hurt a child for not being suitable for a part, is just pure evil and lack of empathy for someone who just like to entertain and be seen. Where's the harm? I sometimes think that these people are the kind of people who wouldn't shy away from bullying.

Here's a challenge - why not try to write something good about each boy? Then you could perhaps come with some constructive criticism.

I'm not sure wether your talking about this thread or about youtube? I personally think most of us here have been constructive and generally pretty positive about the boys. I have to say I completly admire what they are doing... I certainly couldn't have done it when I was eleven... hel I probably would have a hard time now! I do agree with you though, I hope that the boys aren't looking at whats being said on the internet because I think both the over-the-top adoration and the critcism could do them damage

Kids nowadays seem to google their names quite often when they get a little taste of fame, haha.

As Jocko Homo said, the majority of people on this thread has never been unjustly critical of any of the boys; if I had ever implied anything of the sort I sincerely apologise as that has never been my intention. I'm full of admiration for them all because I think all of them do have genuine talent, and I definitely wouldn't have had (or even now have) the guts to do what they're doing. Perhaps we may get carried away/too heated sometimes, but if you read the thread properly the vast, vast majority of the comments have been positive, or else the negative ones have been accompanied by some positiveness. At the same time though, I think the kids should have been ready to deal with all this publicity when they (or their parents, I guess) decided to go for such a heavily televised audition process, and it shouldn't be compared to a normal one. While I think that encouragement and constructiveness are essential when dealing with child actors, they have to be ready to accept that once they are on TV, people will form opinions on them at both ends of the spectrum.

I think because we're all assuming the final spot is between Jonny and Gareth, with a possibility of Jordan (*fingers crossed Gareth or Jordan*), either Joseph or Sam is going to get the final spot...

They all deserve it though.

I'm actually dreading watching the Olivers on Saturday.

If they are lucky they are well prepared. I know they've been adviced not to give interviews, and I know they are being kept slightly secluded at the 'Oliver House'.

I agree that the vast majority of comments have been very positive. And there is not so much of the 'I love him' kind of comments on here, which is great. (I agree with what someone wrote above that it would be kind of fun to wqatch people's reactions if Jonny Clowes didn't go on to the semi-finals. Not that I have anything against Jonny, though.)

Hopefully they are well-informed that people might have various opinions on their acting and their persona, and that their opinion has no bearing at all.

By the way, Chester McKee too and also Gareth Barrows have 'fanclubs' on the net.

I think if you read the last few pages of this thread you'll find very little that isn't positive and almost all of it constructive.

It's a bit off comparing our comments with the kind of mania or vitriol found on You Tube. Not without some kind of qualifying comment to explain what you're referring to. Speaking for myself and some of the other DS members whose posts I've been enjoying on this thread, there's clearly a real affection and respect for what those little fellas are doing. And personally, I'd like to see them all get some kind of role in the show.
