The understudy thing might just be a rumour, but in that case I wonder if they'd take their geography into account - it'll be much easier for Alexander (London) or Chester (Middlesex) to be on stage at a short notice than Arthur (Bristol) or Jonny (Warwick) for example. But meh, Alex and Chester are way too good to be understudies!
Rewatched Where is Love and still think it is brilliant. lol about Gwion's Welshness unable to contain itself.
I'm still not quite sure what to make of him - he doesn't evoke the spontaneous "aww" feeling with me, that he seems to with others. Still, he is extremely striking and has a very sweet, sugary voice.
Harry has come up heaps in my estimation - he was definitely one of my favourites, though he wasn't one of my favourite for the role; but now I think he'd do a great job as Oliver. A bit different to the conventional but I'll be really interested to see what he can do. He sings out of the side of his mouth though - they should put him with Jessie lol!
I also completely agree that Laurence has come up a long way, and as much as I hate the cliché, in his case the word 'journey' is fitting. He was definitely the dark horse - not a standout to begin with (except to the perceptive Jocko Homo
), then surprised everyone with such a fantastic voice. I particularly feel that the fact he has never had any acting lessons is admirable - even from the few second clips we've seen, his acting is so convincing and believable; he just seems suited to the character of Oliver in every way. Good job Laurence!
I've also just rewatched some of the earlier performances like Pie Jesu, Electricity, A Whole New World etc with a whole new light, and I've discovered that I'll never be able to watch it again without feeling heartbroken for the ones that didn't make it.
I'm never usually this soft but I think I've just been investing waaaay too much emotionally for these kids!
