Oliver! the movie was shown in Ireland last weekend and was struck by how brilliant Jack Wild was (and how drippy Mark Lester was - the 12 were all so much better). Incredibly sad, what happened to him. Big shoes to fill.

Sorry, this is a bit random, because i haven't really posted in this thread, but Jack Wild fricking rocked. Having thought a lot about the film of late, I came to the conclusion that his performance, above all, was 'iconic'. He is the perfect Dodger, I can't imagine him any other way. And given that we'll never see his like again, I am doomed to permanent disappointment.

Aww that's fantastic news about Jordan. I knew he'd get something out of it. I don't know whether Charlie has a bigger part in the play than in the film but at least he'll be in the West End. I reckon they'll rotate the part so maybe Jordan/Gareth/Sam as Charlie? or maybe even Arthur?

I can't quite remember what Charlie Bates' role was in the musical - is it a fairly prominent part? Does he get solo lines?

It was from some YouTube comments, but there's also been some suggestive things here and there. The rumour may be just stemming from one person though.

I'm no musical expert, but I watched the movie again recently and Charlie was the one who went with Dodger and Oliver in the pickpocketing mission that results in Oliver's arrest. He does get one solo line, calling for the other boys while Fagin is singing 'Cheerio but be back soon'

Not sure about the MT version though.

They were doing the final acting task with Daniel Barber (Gavroche in Les Mis) as Dodger the week Jonny got through.
