So, on AI numbers, would it be fair to put a scale like this to them:-

100-90 = excellent
89-80 = good
79-70 = average
69-60 = poor
59-50 = very poor
49-0 = Oh dear, Oh dear!

Not really, no.

85 or over is excellent
90 or over is exceptional
60 or less is poor
55 or less very poor.

I'm not sure I've seen a show with an AI lower than 50

The average ai for as of 2011 was 82 iirc. For dramas it was slightly higher.

Some party political broadcasts have registered in the 20s. Since the current system was introduced in 2005, I don't believe anything has hit less than 20.

It's understandable. If someone hates what they are watching that much, why continue watching? PPBs are an example of awful TV that people are likely to sit through.

In the interest of full disclosure, I once ended up trapped in front of an episode of 'Paris Hilton's British BFF' (I had labyrinthitis, and the remote was out of reach). I awarded it the only 1/10 score I've ever given as a member of the panel. It was that devoid of merit. My intestines were getting ready to leap up and cut off my bloody supply as an act of mercy before my wife returned.

For some reason I would have assumed they didn't qualify because they always seem more like adverts than tv programmes...

Yeah, I think that why the average AI is such a healthy figure in general. I don't know if it's still the case but Daybreak for a long time was in the low 60's. I caught a little of it this morning for the first time and was shocked at the poor quality and production values!

You deserve a knighthood for surviving that!

Sorry, it was my bad misreading the AI results and forgetting for a daft moment that people choose to watch these programmes rather than being made to watch them as it were.

I'm not knocking Dad's Army in the slightest. I think it's a wonderful program and it's made my laugh lots of times but well when something is repeated as often as that is I was surprised to see it still scoring so highly that's all.

They are scheduled, and have official timeslots, so they get measured.

I believe it still is, in the main.

I rarely give scores of less than 7/10, because I PVR things I like and just don't watch things I'm not interested in. A 7/10 usually means a relatively disappointing instalment of something I enjoy. I always wondered what it would take for me to give a 1/10...

Never mind Paris Hilton marathons - You deserve a forum knighthood for your contributions to this thread. Always informed, interesting and helpful.

Many thanks.

PS. Because I've not heard of it I googled Labrynthitis. Luckily you're not a Nimon. Symptoms include "sweating, nausea, and vomiting". Are you sure you just weren't simply watching Paris Hilton shows?

I'm pretty sure I've got cause and effect the right way around.

Exactly the same here.

I've been on the panel for two-and-a-bit years and I think in that time the lowest I've ever gone was a 5 for an absolute stinker of an episode of CSI.

I've never bought into the "so bad it's good" mentality - life's too short to be watching television programmes you don't like.

Well the timeshift (excl. VOSDAL) is 1.479m.

Which is decent compared other programming, but a little bit low for DW.

I think the ratings for the last three episodes are are set to be in line with the last few now, especially with the better weather arriving. Overnight's between high four and low to middle five million. Final ratings in the middle six million range. To be honest, I wasn't expecting anything better when they announced 7b was to be aired in Spring again. A January-February scheduling would've been much better.

Yep, warm & sunny in most places tomorrow plus it's a bank holiday weekend so I think the overnights will be low. Also I haven't seen one trailer for it this week.

There was an Iplayer Trailer for the Series last night after Masterchef.

I think we can expect to see a lift over the final three episodes for the following reasons...a/ Little competition this week with no direct overlap with BGT, b/ Cybermen back & Neil Gaiman writing c/ Final Episode of Series 7 which promises to be quite an episode! Here's hoping anyway!!!

They have ditched episode trailers in favour of "watch it all again on iPlayer."

Why aren't they doing episode trailers? Surely they could put a caption up at the end to remind people iPlayer exists. Seems an odd thing to do to a flagship show?

Wasn't someone here grumbling about the lack of trailers before the series start? Back then I didn't agree and thought publicity was ok. But maybe they had a point.

As this episode heads towards what looks like another post-VOSDAL timeshift of 1.6/1.7m, I thought it might be helpful to post this from elsewhere:

________________________

A 1.6/1.7m timeshift is about normal following an overnight within one or two points of 5m.

Look at the only two episodes to score overnights well under 5m. 'The Hungry Earth' and 'The Lodger'. Both got higher post-VOSDAL timeshifts than the episodes around them, to take them to the magic c. 6.5m point that seems to reflect the show's 'core' in a PVR/VoD world.

But then look at 'Vincent and the Doctor'. A 5m overnight, a fall of 0.7m from the previous week, but no compensatory post-VOSDAL timeshift (a slight fall in fact, though that's possibly noise around the roughness of the overnights).

In fact look at the five overnights between 5 and 5.2m (again, allowing for the overnights being rough), and you see no compensatory post-VOSDAL timeshifts, no matter how big the overnight fall from the previous episode (in each case a fall within one or two points of the one we saw for 'Hide').

Now that's the sort of timeslot that should suit DW.

Its up against a live FA cup match between Manchester City and Wigan Athletic. The match starts at 5.15pm, so it will likely just be finishing as Who starts.

I know nothing about football so don't know if that's a big match.

Really don't think any timeslot change will help this late in the day. As I said earlier, the good weather is likely to stop any improvement in viewing figures....not that they're in any way below the normal range now.

I meant that 7pm is when DW should always air, not 6pm, 6:15, 6:30 or 6:45.

I do hope you're joking there, it's the Cup Final!
