Such a shame that TV can't do anything more imaginative (on the whole) than all this piss-poor reality TV crap.

It does annoy me when people say things like "everybodys talking about this" or "its essential viewing" etc.
But "Approximately one in five people are talking about it" or "It's essential viewing for 21.5% of the population, taken as the highest recorded figure over it's thirteen week run and excluding when it clashed with live sporting events", just aren't that snappy as tag lines

Does anyone know if there are updated viewing figures for Silence in the Library? I imagine the figures would go up quite a bit with people recording Doctor Who to watch Britain's Got Talent live.

The timeshift figures will be out next Wednesday. The BBC3 Sunday ratings were roughly 1.1 million, twice that of the prior episode (TUATW).

I think it's actually 7.1 million...

eta: just double checked and it is...

The 40% share is especially impressive.

I'm really surprised that the Euro's performed so badly last night. It looks like the lack of home nations has really hit its ratings as the 2004 competition was averaging 6-8 million rather than the poor 3.5 million it got last night. I guess some viewers aren't interested at all if there's no home nations included but that's double good news for Doctor Who as it would have gained extra viewers that don't like the footie and footie fans that weren't watching the Euro's because of no home nations.

Mind you, almost 2 million viewers must have sat there pretty confused last night as they didn't watch the first part

Yeah I was surprised by that too. It goes to show that if there is no 'home nation' involvement, interest is going to be more limited. TBH, I actually forgot it even started yesterday till I turned on the Beeb shortly before Doctor Who started last night and saw Alan Hansan and co were on...

Well, given we don't know the the time shift ratings yet, we don't know how many people watching last nights episode didn't see last weeks show, but I'm betting it will be significantly less than that. In fact if you factor in the iplayer option, probably very few of those watching last night didn't see last weeks episode first....

Absolutely brilliant overnight ratings, and 40% audience share as well.

I'm glad I was wrong about people not tuning in for part two, they must have either caught up on a repeat or recording, or simply just tuned in and the recap was enough! Glad to see Moffat getting some good ratings as bizarrely, his episodes are often the most talked about but least viewed in the run due to a number of factors.

Great result, and an awesome audience share too!

Could we see the AI breaking the 90 barrier after last week's stunning 89?

Tune in tomorrow...

Cypher

You've just gotta love the way that the audience drops off so dramatically when Who finishes. Just goes to show that they're tuning in for a reason.

And in this particular case, tuning out for a reason too!

I'll add, for clarity, I mean for the ITV Euro match, not to escape Moffat's turgid denouement.

I don't watch live broadcasts as I don't have a television set so download it on BBC i-player. The ratings might not reflect viewers like me who download a day or more after transmission.

The BARB ratings don't, but the iPlayer streams and downloads are recorded. There tend to be about half a million in total for each episode.

interesting, the ratings are still holding firm, watch the episode ratings add an extra 1m+ when we reach episodes 11 - 13. I fully expect the Beeb to go on a huge aggressive marketing offensive, lots of trailers, idents, perhaps some billboards and a bit of radio advertising on the beeb channels, not to mention Billie getting a front page on the Radio Times.

the good thing for the series is that the ratings have held up over 4 years now, which is a testament to the writing AND genius of RTD.

I hope the BBC is more respectful of Doctor Who when it returns for its new season in 2010. I know it didn't make a huge impact on viewing figures, but it did seem less important as a show being on in the 6pm slot rather than 7pm - especially when you consider the show that got its slot!

AI of 89 for Forest of the Dead...second week in a row it's gotten that rating, which is especially impressive given the complexity of the story...

Could be that the viewers are trying not to look stupid.
