The number 8.3 might not look impressive on the face of it but it's a good result considering it was still the 2nd most watched show of the night, beating Eastenders, Corrie and Downton. Plus it'll time shift like crazy. It always does.

8.3m against Corrie is very impressive, considering that Corrie has been getting over 9m recently.

And as you say Doctor Who will time-shift big time!

Yeah, I meant when you compare it to those around it and see what it was up against. I just mean when we look back in years to come at the brute over nights, it's not as high as say the 50th or previous Xmas specials. But then the circumstances make it a good result.

The best part? Day of the Doctor is now 100% certain to be the UK's most watched drama of 2013.

Yog is on holiday and won't be back until January 2nd. So we will have to wait.

By then we'll have the official figure.

I think it will end up with an official of about 10.5m.

tbh that's my main concern at the moment.
people are clearly supporting the show but we know how easy that changes. I'm not saying for one moment moffat should quit/be sacked.

I personally feel someone around him needs to make the case stories don't have to have about 10 layers of things going on when 2 or 3 will do just fine.

sometimes loose ends happen in Real life so why this constant need to fix them doesn't always enhance the story

Tbh we may be seeing a shift in audience. The irony of (exclusive) Classic Who fandom, much as I like Classic (and my first doc was Pertwee) is that there is a finite amount of episodes.

NuWho, rolling like the proverbial snow ball, is gaining speed outside the UK. If the BBC tried to pull it back, I suspect USA and Worldwide would take over.

And, I really deplore some of the 'Brit-centric' posts you see on IMDB, YouTube, et al.

It doesn't do the show any favours, engaging in jingoistic rhetoric or clashing Classic vs Nu.

Eventually, all that crap will just disappear up it's own black-hole, and the only thing that will be left will be acrimony.

Do we all, really, really want to be Stef Coburn??

To clarify, am I selfish for wanting 'Farewell to Matt Smith' to air in the U.K at the same time as in the US? You have to admit, it's a bit odd that we've spent all this time getting to a point where episodes are shown on the same day in the US and simulcasting the 50th etc, but when it comes to BBC America documentaries we have to wait for them to show up somewhere else, like itunes?

Can't everybody have access to everything?

Not surprised. It had a lot of people complaining about it.

Being disappointed about a score of 83, which is still in the good category, just shows how well the Moffat era has generally been received...although you'd never know it from the misinformation from his detractors.

Most shows would be very happy indeed with an AI of 83.
It's only worrying because we've become used to Doctor Who's AI figures being higher than that.
Personally I'm not surprised because the Christmas episode wasn't particularly accessible to casual viewers IMO.

It has the same AI as 'A Christmas Carol', which was generally a well-liked episode wasn't it? No biggie.

"The Rings of Akhaten" had an AI of 84. That episode was considered one of the worst New Who episodes and "Time of the Doctor" scored lower than it. Personally I don't really care much for AI figures but it's still rather telling that the audience would rather watch Akhaten again than the big end of an era regeneration episode.

AI figures don't tell you anything about 'rewatchability'. I don't know why you'd say that. They're a scoring of a single viewing.

Either way, we're still talking about the 'good' category.

Fear Her had an AI of 83.

Dalek and
Empty child 84

So this doesn't really mean much.

That settles it. Doctor Who is doomed. DOOMED, I say! It will not survive another year.
