Bet he hates Doctor Who even more now!
As Nelson Muntz of The Simpsons would say -
"HA HA!"

It's currently number 1. The only thing that could possibly displace it would be the Federer v Nadal Wimbledon final...

The women's final got less than 4 million viewers, I think Nadal vs Federer is a bigger draw, but I don't see it topping 7 million. Have to wait and see...

Like or loathe RTD, he certainly knows how to play the media game and pull in the viewers. I know lots of hardcore fans don't like his take on the show, but personally I think it fits in perfectly with the range of story types other writers offer: a well balanced mix to please the kids to the geeks (I count myself as both!) My only concern when the mind boggling brain of Mr Moffat takes over is that the scales may tip in favour of adult stories and viewing figures and ultimately the lifeblood of the show: ratings, suffer as a result.

Stunning well done RTD

Pete I share your concern about the complicated SM storylines -as a thirtysomething who watched the show from 7 years old I would plead to SM to remember the kids and continue giving them the fun, silly happenings from time to time .
I'm not that concerned though -back in the 70's I watched and enjoyed the show and loved it even though I remember the plots getting a bit complicated from time to time. It's the same for kids now I think they watch because they just know they like what they see even when and if it gets complicated -they still enjoy.

I agree! RTD writes DW for the masses, for all ages and for the mainstream television audience and gets the ratings despite what the fans think of him. Moffats episodes if i recall rightly have all had decent ratings too, but from some of the interviews he's done regarding the future of the show there's some cause for concern on this, he does seem to want to take the series into a more adult direction - and perhaps ratings will dip.

Wow 9.4 Million, Impressive ratings, especially considering it was the 2nd part of a 2 -Parter. Now its Dr Who withdrawel symptons until December 25th.

Yep....I'm really stunned by the ratings, think I said a page or two back not to hope for more than 9.2 million as a final rating....

Happy to be wrong though!

On the other hand...boo the long wait till Xmas....

Some very nice numbers there for Russell to finish his final full series with.

Good to see the audience size increasing as the show continued, rather than a big burst at the start as everyone tuned in to see the cliffhanger resolution, then tuned right back out again (which was what I thought might happen).

They've got the 15-minute breakdown over on OG - once DW finished, about 5 million viewers tuned out. A strong message that people know what they want to watch.

With a larger audience size, I doubt the AI will match up to what we saw last week, so I'm guessing 88 or 89.

Who reckons this could top "Rose" in the final ratings?

Voyage Of The Damned scored the best ratings EVER in the revived series and "Rose" is currently in second place but i think "Journey's End" could definetly top that!

From past episodes this series, the final figure is sometimes 1 million past the overnight figure so i think it has a good chance.

What does everyone else think.

Unlikely, I think Rose was close to 11 million. But that was a fairly unrefined audience, in so much as a lot of people tuned in out of curiosity rather than they actually liked the show, hence why Rose has one of the lower AI's achieved.

Too soon. The AI panel log on the following day to rate the previous day's TV. It then get's compiled and released the next day. So Saturday's AI figures won't be available until Monday at the earliest.

Hee hee...there were elements of it that didn't work, but it did have some cracking moments and the script was great in places....my favorite scene being the one in front of the London Eye!

As ghastly as last nights episode was I'm glad it received high viewing figures. Thats all the BBC need to know, that the show can still maintain high viewing figures.

Ghastly for you maybe, but we await the AI on Monday to find out what the verdict of the viewership as a whole was...

My prediction is something like 89. It would be virtually impossible to maintain such an extraordinary AI as they got last week with such a huge audience. We shall see though!
