Some people seem to prefer obvious and rather simplistic characterization.
So yes Nine was angst ridden because of the Time War and Ten was sad because of the whole last of his kind thing and Eleven was rather silly and flippant but with a cruel undercurrent that was because of...oh wait. Why was that exactly?
No one questioned why Hartnell was a spiky and rather grumpy type. It was his character. It didn't need a big neon sign saying THIS IS WHY HE IS WHO HE IS.
I am loving the sense of actual depth and development of Twelve. Those saying they only warmed to him in the last couple of episodes and that's a bad thing are missing the point. That IS the point. Its the kind of character arc that poor Eleven never got. He was what he was. And he went nowhere. Now that's poor writing. What they're doing with Twelve is actually taking you on a journey with him. That's brilliant writing. Of course the usual suspects will repeat the same empty critiques. But so be it.
When will people stop equating stuff they don't like with something being inherently bad. Its just as likely they have bad taste. And in this instance it certainly is true.
Capaldi is immense.
