Some people seem to prefer obvious and rather simplistic characterization.

So yes Nine was angst ridden because of the Time War and Ten was sad because of the whole last of his kind thing and Eleven was rather silly and flippant but with a cruel undercurrent that was because of...oh wait. Why was that exactly?

No one questioned why Hartnell was a spiky and rather grumpy type. It was his character. It didn't need a big neon sign saying THIS IS WHY HE IS WHO HE IS.

I am loving the sense of actual depth and development of Twelve. Those saying they only warmed to him in the last couple of episodes and that's a bad thing are missing the point. That IS the point. Its the kind of character arc that poor Eleven never got. He was what he was. And he went nowhere. Now that's poor writing. What they're doing with Twelve is actually taking you on a journey with him. That's brilliant writing. Of course the usual suspects will repeat the same empty critiques. But so be it.

When will people stop equating stuff they don't like with something being inherently bad. Its just as likely they have bad taste. And in this instance it certainly is true.

Capaldi is immense.

Bonus hour with Jamie M, while we're here.

“People are making a lot of mileage over the Missy plot and what exactly that’s about, but I think really the arcing plot of this season - one of the meatiest things in this series - is the Doctor and Clara’s relationship, the richness of that bond between the companion and the Doctor, and how they interact with one another, the negotiation of who the Doctor is now and what Clara means to that.”

On the one hand this does mean no post-8m peaks, on the other hand every other series, bar 1 and 7, had recorded a lower rating than 6.82m by this point.”

Yep. Some people are not only making too much of Missy and stuff but they are inventing an arc that only exists in their heads. I actually think the finale will be fairly straightforward. The shocks will come not from some lazy shock reveal or convoluted plot point but from the actual drama and characters themselves. And about time to. Of course Moffat will get slaughtered for not having enough arc this time. Damned if you do...

The people that are hell bent on speculating about the most insignificant of moments in an episode are the very same that aren't happy with whatever ends up happening on screen. They end up coming up with something so mind-numbingly in depth that the actual resolution is inevitably disappointing and nowhere near as diabolical as the plot they invented themselves.

Remember when the theories about the Doctor's bow tie colours changing and the whole two Doctor's appearing in different episodes as a double ganger, even though we saw it die...

Oh my god was that an actual theory? Hahahahaha! That's quite upsetting actually. This is why I've been off these forums for four years! I must be mad to have come back

I actually made a suggestion that the Doctor was inside the tesselecter, but it got shot down very quickly!

Yeah, I stopped posting in here, as people we getting their expectations waaaaay to high! Theories, winding around all over the place

I rememebr the Doctor liking an apple in the episode with all the people worst nightmares in rooms, and people saying it was a clear sign it was a different Doctor because he didn't like apples in the first episode with Smith!

you can just file it next to every other dopey theory ever. Some people seem to treat the show like a game of Where's Wally except substitute Wally for 'really bad theory'. Worst thing is I think they think it makes them super clever and smarter than those viewers that just you know. Watch the show and enjoy it. They are wrong. I have been guilty of this kind of film studies a-\level lets analyze everything to pointlessness in the past. I still do it. But I realize its rather embarrassing.

Oh I did the overanalysing for series three, really badly. I was obsessive. I even had a notebook to jot things down in. Serious bellend territory. But I was 15, and everyone is a bellend at 15, so all is forgiven the forums were not my friend then, I think that's why I had to stop. I was getting weird. I can see how it can consume you, but the theories are never correct and they are often more overblown than the actual resolution.

Haha oh blimey. That's quite amazing. This is why there are so many angry people on here. The writers had the audacity to NOT go with their brilliant idea!

Doctor Who: 4.60m (20.1%)

I'm expecting a decent tapecheck boost to make up the numbers - DW ended four minutes early at 21.06 while the overnight figure is recorded to 21.10...

That's a long time for a turn off. I thought it started early because I tuned in late, thinking I had time to spare.

The core audience is circa 5 million plus 2-3 million catch up isn't it really? How much of an overlap of people who watched it first then watching it again on catch up remains to be seen.

There will be a final time adjustment at the end of the week to account for the early start / finish.

The answer to that is zero - they don't double count in that way. The only people who think they do are those who seem to want to suggest that ratings are declining and the show is somehow 'in trouble'.

Thanks for that Chris, I didn't realise this. But how do they distinguish that?

But I remember arguing on here that the idea that River was Amy and Rory's child was ridiculous and people must be mad to think it was going to happen.

It was ridiculous, but it happened.

Since then, I've never said that any theory, however barmy, could not be correct.

I don't know the technicalities - I guess they have a bit of software that weeds out repeated viewings.

Incidentally, the X Factor breakdown shows what those extra 4-5 minutes can do to pull down an average. Hence the final tape adjustments.

Quote:
“20:00 - 6.24m

20:15 - 7.72m

20:30 - 8.24m

20:45 - 8.36m

21:00 - 8.40m

21:15 - 7.99m

21:30 - 7.98m

21:45 - 7.62m

22:00 - 7.42m

22:15 - 4.14m”

That's disappointing. After the good overnight and AI last week i thought we would be getting over 7m finals till the end of the series... This episode could still get to 7m, but it's looking a long shot atm imho.
