The Ratings Thread wraps Series 8 in a nutshell.

I think it's a case of several people projecting their dislikes. They didn't enjoy series 8; they don't like the 12th Doctor; they can't stand Steven Moffat. Naturally, they assume that because they don't like it, there's something drastically wrong with the show and viewers are switching off in their droves..... Trouble is, people are still watching in their droves!

28 Day consolidation:
Deep Breath: 9.529m (7 day consolidated: 9.169m)
Into the Dalek: 7.672m (7 day consolidated: 7.286m)
Robot of Sherwood: 7.707 (7 Day consolidated: 7.277m)
Listen: 7.426m (7 Day consolidated: 7.011m)
Time Heist: 7.378m (7 Day consolidated: 6.993m)
The Caretaker: 7.175m (7 Day consolidation: 6.820m)
Kill The Moon: 7.248m (7 Day consolidation: 6.914m)
Mummy on the Orient Express: 7.475m (7 Day consolidation: 7.111m)
Flatline: 7.014m (7 Day consolidation: 6.712m)
In the Forest of the Night: 7.295m (7 Day consolidation: 6.921m)

The same thing no doubt happened with previous series but wasn't measured. Look at Live+7 for series 8 and compare to previous series to get a good comparison.

Interesting stuff. Cheers, Yog. The last 2 episodes obviously did well in the 7 day consolidated figures so assume their going to perform well in the 28 days figures too. It's all good.

Btw, have heard Series 8 did well on BBC America but haven't seen any figures. Any of you good people know how it did there compared to previous years?

The event episodes seem easier to find because they actually make headlines

Asylum of the Daleks: 1.55m
The Bells of St John: 2.01m
Day of The Doctor: 2.4m
Time of The Doctor: 2.47m
Deep Breath: 2.58m

It was breaking records in Australia & Canada, too, IIRC.

A little fact is that renders the series average at an even healthier 7.59m.

The 28 day average or the 7 day average? The 7 day average is certainly not 7.5m.

Averages out (to 2dp) to 8.31m for Series 8! Marvellous!

I imagine the BBC are rather pleased with that. And we haven't had the final 28 days figures for the whole series yet.

I imagine the Beeb will be rethinking their decision to commission a Series 9.

I did some quick stats about how Atlantis has been performing in DW's main slot - after Strictly, clashing with X-Factor, on overnights, and a final for Episode 1.

Atlantis Episode 1 - 4.20m (overnight) / 5.32m (Final)
DW: The Caretaker - 4.88m (overnight / 6.82m (Final)

Atlantis Episode 2 - 3.62m (overnight)
DW: Kill the Moon - 4.82m (overnight)

Now, Atlantis is a show that is genuinely struggling...!

It's the fact that it's DIRE... The production values are high and I love some of the characters but there's something about it that doesn't quite work, though I still enjoy watching... The fact that Alexander Siddig chose not to renew for the second season speaks volumes...

Atlantis continues to struggle in the same slot:

"Strictly Come Dancing secured more than 9.6 million viewers last night (Saturday, December 6), according to overnight figures. BBC One's dancing competition appealed to 9.68m (43%) from 7pm. It was followed by Atlantis, which drew 3.5m (15.8%)."

Although would the BBC consider 3.5m bad as an overnight?

Atlantis is doing worse than last year and consolidated is down on the overnights for last year. It's also lower than what Doctor Who got there a few weeks beforehand.

To be fair, it is rubbish.

DW would have been beating episodes of Coronation Street this week, by the sounds of things... and that's just on overnights
