There has been an error which needs correcting.

I forgot that ITV reports HD separately - Monday's CS edges in

Quote:
“9.689 Mrs Browns Boys BBC1 25th 10:06pm (10:05pm)
9.407 Call The Midwife BBC1 25th 7:51pm ( 7:50pm)
8.979 Strictly Come Dancing BBC1 25th 4:59pm ( 5:00pm)
8.655 Miranda BBC1 25th 7:16pm ( 7:15pm)
8.604 Eastenders BBC1 25th 9:06pm ( 9:05pm)
8.291 Coronation Street ITV 22nd 7:32pm ( 7:30pm)
8.284 Doctor Who BBC1 25th 6:14pm ( 6:15pm)”

( If it makes you feel better, Coronation Street is down 12m viewers since Christmas 1989 )

Up/Down on previous year, or from start-to-end if 'new'

(DW includes Day & Time of The Doctor for 2013)

It would always be down on last year when you include the 50th and Christmas regeneration episodes. Two event episodes.

A very interesting link - thank you CD93. In particular:

1/ Launching a “+1” channel for BBC One showing BBC One programmes one hour later;

2/ Changes to iPlayer – which currently is mainly for catching-up on TV; programmes – to allow it also to offer a greater range of content available only online, content that is shown online before it is broadcast, and selected content from non-BBC sources and;

3/ Increased investment in drama on BBC One.

Is anyone able to shed some light on the Broadchurch viewing figures?

The Mail says they have plunged to their lowest ever with overnights of 5.7 million viewers for episode 3.

Is that bad for Broadchurch? I have no idea how the overnights ran for season 1.

I'm sure somebody from the Ratings Thread will have weekly breakdowns. I only have wikipedia for S1.

Quote:
“Broadchurch attracted an average weekly audience of 7.1 million "live" viewers during its run. After accounting for time-delayed viewing, Broadchurch averaged 9.2 million viewers per episode”

I think Broadchurch was considered the 'Holy Grail' of modern drama viewing figures, so its interesting to see how it goes.

This is all tied in with the result of the consultation on whether BBC3 will move to being an online only channel.
If it does, BBC1+1 will simply replace it.

Timeshifts still running wild in places.

Quote:
“Consolidated:
Broadchurch 8.64m/9.43m (+ 3.30m)
Silent Witness 8.13m (+ 2.64m)

Foyle's War 5.65m/6.16m (+ 1.42m)
Last Tango in Halifax 7.07m (+ 1.38m)
Still Open All Hours 7.12m (+ 0.75m)”

Quote:
“Live figures:
Broadchurch 4.47m
Silent Witness 4.51m”

As in the TV forum, worth noting I think, because of the range of demographics. Also the Broadchurch live figure:

Quote:
“Broadchurch 4.47m”

Prompted me to check the BARB graph. Christmas 2014 (w/c 22nd December) currently holds the lowest percentage of live viewers since the record began in 2006. Timeshifting accounted for 14.2% of viewing that week.

Thank you again CD93. Christmas 2014 really stunned me in terms of viewing figures.

What the hell did people do Christmas night this year. Play games? Talk???? The world's going mad.

The Broadchurch figures continue to interest me. I guess we need to remember it is (almost) two years since season 1 was shown. A lot could have changed since then, even for a 'must see' like Broadchurch.

That said, I wonder if the final episode of season 2 will draw a similar audience on the night as the finale of season 1.

Xmas viewing figures should finally silence the DW doom mongers once and for all. The whole viewing culture has changed as some of us knew all along. DW is ahead of the curve in that it maintains respectable overnights but is excelling in areas like on demand and DVD/blu and foreign markets.

As for Broadchurch? A warning of how fickle audiences and critics are these days. And further testament to the incredible work of RTD and Moffat and the BBC and indeed DW as an enduring classic that it is in its tenth year.

Just a heads up that Last Christmas will disappear from IPlayer tonight at 9 pm. So, we could get the final IPlayer stats and 28 day time shift soon to find out the ultimate reach of the episode?

I would have expected BC to be getting higher live & overnights based off the first series averages. Certainly wouldn't have seen this coming.

Though, it wasn't an informed expectation. Timeshift doing it's job

Cylon6 dropped this into the main DS ratings thread

"@overnightstv: 28M UK viewers have seen at least 3min of Peter Capaldi as the Twelfth #DoctorWho on BBC1. Reach data."

Proving, it seems, that there is some mysterious element which makes a TV drama 'must see TV' (i.e. must be watched at time of broadcast). Once that mysterious element is lost, good dramas become 'must see at some point during the following week'.

I think being new helps (e.g. Broadchurch season 1) or having a new element (e.g. being the first episode of a new season or - in Doctor Who's case - including a regeneration or a new Doctor).

It would be interesting to work out exactly what the mysterious element actually is.

A lack of choice on the other channels doesn't seem to count these days as people will just turn off. Which they never did when I was growing up in the70s/80s. We watched any old rubbish. Endlessly.

Not just switch off. Nowadays then can just watch whatever they want, whenever they want, on catch-up or from their PVR. It doesn't really matter what's on at the time.
