Final ratings for Journeys End are an amazing 10.57 million!!!!
![]() Unbelievable!! That's a time shift of 1.17 million viewers... So the BBC were right then...I never doubted for a moment.... ![]() eta: I shall be posting a comparative analysis later this evening as I have to go out now. |

Wow! That's one of highest non-Christmas ratings!
And yes time shifts have been huge, mostly due to iplayer and new technology! |

But those numbers don't include iPlayer viewings!
...at least, not via PC. K |

Average Ratings S4: 8.05m (S3: 7.55m, S2:7.71m, S1: 7.95)
The clear winner, and about a million less than the real figure as it does not include the people who watch for the first time on BBC3. Average AI S4: 88.08 (S3: 86.38, S2:84.46, S1: 82.23) It's not unusual for AI to go up as a series continues however this is usually combined with a steady drop in ratings as the more casual viewers are weeded out. Average Chart Position S4: 10th (S1:13th S2:13th S1:17th) The clear winner again! Average Audience Share S4: 36.50% (S3: 37.41%, S2: 40.38%, S1: 40.22%) The only oddity in the list, which suggests that despite common perception there aren't less people watching TV every year. And if you take out the figure skewing 25.4% from the night the final of BGT was on it goes up to 37.43% |

... However, about 5-10% of the BBC3 figures are made up of people not watching for the first time.

Do we know this for certain? (ie is there a link!)
I'm assuming that those last couple of episodes of S4 would have prompted a higher degree of rewatching so I put 5-10% to be safe. |

But please remember that these ratings dont mean anything - only the views of a couple of dozen negative posters on here actually count.

![]() However when it comes to objectively stating the facts ; S4 is the most successful since the series returned and when considered in Real Terms the most successful of both series, old and new, with 'Journey's End' being the most successful episode ever.* *That's when looking at all four measurements, not just raw ratings. |

Totally. I'll stick firmly to my guns that Journey's End was a load of balls*, but to argue that the show isn't going from strength to strength would be just plan daft.
BTW, not entirely sure what you mean by "in Real Terms" in this context. That's quite a specific economics term, as far as I know. (*Despite that, it was still the strongest season since the come-back) |

Wow! 10.57m for the Finale is superb!!
Including all the series' (and Xmas Special's) since its revival in 2005, Journey's End is the 3rd most watched episode of Doctor Who, only behind "Rose" (10.81m) and last years Xmas Special- "Voyage of The Damned" (13.31m). |

No that had a separate rating. I think it had something like 2 million viewers give or take. Don't have the data to hand though.
BBC1 5.35pm Doctor Who: Stolen Earth 1.6m 12.9% 6.25pm Doctor Who: Journeys End 2.6m 16.0% |

Series 1 vs Series 2 vs Series 3 vs series 4 final ratings(excluding Christmas specials):
********* *S1* *S2* *S3* *S4* episode 1 - 10.81: 8.62: 8.71 : 9.14 episode 2 - 7.97: 9.24: 7.23 : 9.04 episode 3 - 8.86: 8.31: 8.41 : 7.5 episode 4 - 7.63: 7.90 : 6.69 : 7.06 episode 5 - 7.98: 9.22: 6.96 : 6.53 episode 6 - 8.63: 7.64:7.19 : 7.33 episode 7 - 8.01: 6.76: 7.41 : 8.41 episode 8 - 8.06: 6.32: 7.74: 6.27 episode 9 - 7.11: 6.08: 7.21 :7.84 episode 10 - 6.86: 6.66: 6.62:8.05 episode 11 - 7.68: 7.14: 7.84: 8.09 episode 12 - 6.81: 8.19: 7.31: 8.78 episode 13 - 6.91: 8.22: 8.62: 10.57 Average ----- 7.95: 7.71: 7.55: 8.05 Series 1 had 4 of the highest rated episodes Series 2 had 3 of the highest rated episodes Series 3 had 0 of the highest rated episodes Series 4 had 6 of the highest rated episodes. Series 4 also has the highest average ratings per episode, series 3 has the lowest. However the range between top and top and bottom is only 500,000 which represents a good level of consistency. Where series 4 really holds it own is in the second half of the series - as you can see from episode 7 onwards, it out rated the comparable episodes from the other series 6 weeks out of 7. Also, with two notable exceptions, it also had strong ratings on a week to week basis, only on three occasions did it rate the lowest amongst it's comparable episodes from the other series. Anyways, enough of my mindless ramblings...enjoy the summer and see you back here on Boxing Day...

I hope our old friend Dervish still sees this forum occasionally - he/she predicted audiences leaving in droves because of CT.
