Apologies, I thought this was in reference to the trailer featuring the Run Boy Run song by Woodkid. At any rate I don't like the press inclusions, I concur that it's a real Americanism.

I'm guessing Day+1 will bring the figures up to over 5m, possibly 5.5m. I think it will be a particularly large jump.

You reckon it'll do nearly 2m in a day? S'funny.

The Witch's Familiar

Live: 2.878m

And now we know.

Doctor Who ep1 consolidates to 6.5m viewers - still less than overnights for Capaldi's debut last year (iPlayer figures remain undisclosed)

Thanks Yog.

I think Bake Off may have added a similar amount on Day 1.

Is it just me or is the timeshift dropping?

I was a bit out

So, based on previous increases, any educated guesses on where we are headed for the final figure?

If it's like episode 1 then around 5.8/5.9m. With a lower overnight you'd think there'd be a slightly higher timeshift. Let's see what happens.

640k for the omnibus on BBC1 yesterday.

Pitiful. What did the Bake Off repeat get in the same slot the week before?

Saturday's looks like a return to a "base under siege" story which, in normal circumstances, should rally the ratings but the late start will kill any chance of that.

Episode 1 has time shifted about the same as last year's average (a little less than I expected - if it had met the expectations it would've reached 6.6m).

Despite the drop in overnights there was no change in the day one time shift for episode 2. If it follows this pattern the final figure will be around 5.7m.

AI was 83 - less liked than ep 1 which is surprise frankly in the circumstances. Capaldi's era really needs some plus 85 AI figures because he's quite away behind the average of the others right now

If even half of the 640k who watched the omnibus yesterday had timeshifted instead though, it would have pushed it up to over 5m and you would have been a lot closer! I should think a fair few people might have decided to watch the two together rather than just timeshift TWF on its own on Sunday.

Not sure what week it was but the bake off repeats got 1.4-1.5m

Omnibus was added very late in the day and only promoted from Saturday.

If Daleks didn't get viewers in I don't see why this week's story should appeal to the public.

Daleks aren't special anymore having been overused in Nu-Who. The trail at the end for next week looked good which is why I'd hope it would do its job and make people watch.

So time shifting is nothing spectacular, just in-line with what an average time shift will have, now that is some bad news and perhaps slightly concerning, suggests a chunk of the audience that was there are not bothering to catch up so are they just part of the audience that just watch because its on but don't care if they miss it, if so putting up against high profile stuff is a very bad move as we lose those casual people who help bump up the shows numbers.

Anyone know off the top of their head what the average final was for each season?

I wonder if this year's average might be lower just because it hasn't had the opening episode 'boost' that many other seasons have had.

Unfortunately the DW repeat was the lowest rated show on BBC1 yesterday - therefore they may decide not to continue with it.

Really... ouch.. Was there riveting Sunday programing going on, last minute scheduling lack of promotion and all that wouldn't of helped, but yeah not good.

And we have no idea how many of those were repeat viewers or people who were watching the Rugby the day before.

Because everyone can now see it for what it was - a desperate knee-jerk plea for viewers by a panicking broadcaster who has already lost its top show this year and now its second has lost social relevance and is also losing momentum.

And that emergency repeat utterly failed - with 640K viewers!

Anyone still think Moffat is there until at least 2020? There's more chance of Chris Evans replacing Capaldi. If there's no full series in 2016 now, it'll just look like they're too scared to make one. If they do, the ratings will be even lower.

I don't understand all of this technical stuff, but glancing at the thread, and looking at comments like those above, it seems that even though in the past, whenever anyone voices concern that the ratings might be low, you get handwaving by an army of people who say 'no, timeshifting, changing habits, iplayer etc, that actually this time all of that has been taken into account and still the rating is lower than expected.

Don't get me wrong, I take no pleasure in saying that, it's just that I do find it annoying that some people can never seem to admit a low rating and always come up with as many ways as possible to excuse it. It's almost as bad as those who act like you have to like every single episode to call yourself a fan.

I love how the show is at the moment but I'm starting to accept that it's lost some of its popularity. Lots of my friends became "casual fans" of the show around series 5. They've all drifted away. People used to talk about Who in the staffroom at work but don't anymore. Just anecdotal, I know, but I can feel a change.

Does it matter? I hope not. I'd rather have a show that I enjoy with low ratings than high ratings for something that leaves me cold.

Wasn't someone saying that due to an anomaly the repeat will now pick up the timeshifts for the week?

If correct it won't look good for the original showing.

When you're one of the few left due to low ratings of a programme, the programme doesn't last long. Fortunately Doctor Who is a cash cow.
