I watched it live via iplayer, is that counted in the initial ratings?

iplayer ratings are not counted by BARB, though in time we will get a separate figure for them.

Which is a good solid start I would have said, and it was the most watched programme on TV yesterday”

Does this take into account iplayer figures? How are they factored in? It is the number one show on iplayer at the moment.

Edit: Just seen the answer in the post above.

that was the series 4 opener your quoting, last night was 8.3 million...

Overnights of 8.3m

Considering that this figure almost always goes up when the final BARB rating is announced, this is a really fantastic start!

That's excellent; and with the strong opening episode, I'm really hopeful the viewing figures stay high - I'm sure it will

Same overnight figure as New Earth!

I'm very interested to see what the AI will be, because that will be a good way to measure how much the episode resonated with the wider audience as well as the more hardcore fanbase.

IIRC that should be due on Monday some time.

Definitely - the quality of the episode, plus the amount of questions it raised, plus a lot of people still haven't made their minds up about Matt and Karen, plus the huge trailer at the end... I reckon all this will mean we won't get as much of a drop-off in figures as usual come next week. I hope so

On a Bank Holiday weekend the AIs do not appear until the Tuesday after.

Overnights were 7.7m not 8.3m.

Didnt POTD get about 9.5 last Easter?

Overnights were 7.7m on BBC1 and a further 300,000 on HD, so 8.0m in total: http://gallifreynewsbase.blogspot.com/

Based on overnight ratings, it was the joint least watched season opener since 2005. But it's the same number as the one who watched DT's first regular series episode.

It's also fantastic considering I missed it and watched it on iplayer.

If there's going to be a disagreement about it, can you post a source? All I could find from Google was that The Gallifrey Times (http://thegallifreytimes.blogspot.co...t-ratings.html) report unofficial overnights of 8.3m. But there's no reason to believe official overnights (if those exist?) won't differ.

EDIT: oh, you've posted a source either while I was typing or before I even started typing it with me being so ignorant as not to notice. I wonder what could explain the disparity?

Those where the final figures, not overnights., so you can't use that as a comparison. Plus it's a special not a regular episode. The ratings for series openers are a better point of comparison and these figures fit in with the sort of figures we have come to expect. Would imagine final figures in the region of 9 million here.

8.3m was originally posted by the GallifreyNewsBase source, but that was a mistake. They changed it to 8.0m.

But other websites still have the incorrect 8.3m in their articles.

thats odd, has the figure been revised? It was definitely 8.3 million initially.

Looking at a few sites, it appears it was actually around 8.3 including HD viewers, but it'll be seven days before the figures for those who recorded it to watch later can be estimated. Not bad, I'd say. Where has the revised 7.7 come from?

To be honest, although it's good, because it means there's just as much interest in the new Dr and new team as there was with DT.

BUT what's really important is what happens now with the trend which will determine if Smith, Gillan and Moffat are regarded as a winning team by the public.

It's not bad - but it ain't great ... and it's certainly not I'd've expected given the level of promotion the show has had. I'm surprised more people weren't watching to sample the new Doctor. Don't say they were watching Harry Potter on ITV?

I can't help but wonder if these figures might have been better had the series premiered sooner (i.e. not on a holiday weekend) ...
