You should limit yourself to only speaking authoritatively on things you actually know about then! I could get a better version than yours in three clicks or less.
If you can do it in three clicks or less, then I'm impressed. If you can do so and have started watching in seconds on your TV, even more impressed. If you can end up with a copy that is better than the one broadcast, which you would need to do, then you're a miracle worker, and wasting your powers!

I promise you, I speak with all the authority I need. Even allowing for your three click claim (frankly, I still can't see how you do that, unless you've already set things up to receive new Who torrents automatically).

Getting back to the key point, though, if the audience can access iPlayer copies with ease (and far greater ease than they could, in general, access your torrented copies), and can't differentiate what they get from what is viewed live, then that is what matters.

Far from ntscuser's notion that its hard to do and they end up poor quality.

The quicker iPlayer is shut down the better.
I've just spent the past few minutes reading back the past few pages of this thread. I really don't know what it is, but there seems to be an extra dose of 'moron' going around this year amongst people. I'm worried my typical civility is starting to crack.

The above comment was the one that stood out as the pinnacle of DS-Doctor Who Forum utter idiocy this week. Though there's been some real competiton across the board - oddly enough a claim that is also true for Doctor Who itself. It'll be interesting to see how the media interpret the figures for Under the Lake tomorrow - though I'm pretty much now hardwired to just skip ahead to the figures made available at the end of the following week.

As for iPlayer... it's a major innovation that is currently one of if not the best value services of its kind in the world. The picture quality is identical to the broadcast version - for me in fact it's actually better as I can stream in HD - but because I watch the show live in my bedroom most of the time it's usually in SD for me. The notion that it should be scrapped is the most nonsensical comment I've heard in a while... why deny people a high-quality service of utter convenience when you could just count them as viewers along with anyone who watches live? Wait... that would be a sensible suggestion.

Careful now, any more sensible suggestions like that and the yokel villagers will be after you with flaming pitchforks. Or something.

This has all been marvellous to just sit back and take in.

If you can't construct a post without calling others you don't agree with "morons" and "idiots" I'd say you don't have much civility left to muster.

It seems ironic that you're lambasting "them", who are simply expressing an opinion, by issuing personal perjoratives. Probably best that you try and refrain from the namecalling I reckon especially seeing as it's against the T&Cs.

Have you read some of the garbage that's been spewed on this forum over the last few pages?

Blatant denial of facts (not opinions, facts), constant deflection, outlandish statements with no bearing to either fact or the conversation and to be completely honest, most likely blatant trolling.

I absolutely loathe this suggestion that all opinions should be protected. The poster in question was not stating an opinion they were stating blatantly false "facts" and claiming that they have the right to their opinion. I could sit here and say that Who only got 1 million viewers last week and that I have the right to that opinion. No I don't, because it didn't happen.

The statement in particular that iPlayer needs to be scrapped is just childish fight picking and I'm sick and tired of a minority on this forum ruining it for everyone else and then crying foul when reasonable and respectful members of this site who frequently and consistently have to put up with nonsense and do so with civility get so sick and tired of blatant rubbish that they lash out.

Abomination is one of the most respectful and reasonable people on this forum, so if they're name-calling you can damn well be sure it's deserved.

I leave this thread for a couple of days and come back to utter craziness.

The quicker iPlayer is shut down the better.
There's one very good and that is it is adversely affecting the ratings for Dr Who, or at least the ratings for those who watch it properly.
Seriously, just wise up.

Out of curiosity, ntscuser, are you on the BARB panel? It would be quite daft to imply that the viewing habits of others are inadequate if your own viewership goes unrecorded anyhow. Doesn't really give you much to go on.

People can watch it whenever or however they want. Up to 28 days on iPlayer, for example

I was going to predict between 3.7 and 4.5, but the Episode discussion thread seems to be much quieter than it was this time last week which makes me worry that it pulled in even fewer viewers live than it did last week.
It's a shame, because these episode have been really good so far.

Anyway, this is my last time watching live. Back to Uni next week so it will be iPlayer wrapped up in bed with a nice mug of tea at 10pm for me from now on.

If more people do decide to tune in hopefully they will realise it's the 2nd half of a two parter and watch Part 1 before watching Part 2.

Otherwise you could get people watching, being totally confused and then turning off after 5 mins.

2.9 here main reason not only the match but on so late
I think its going to timeshift the greatest since the new series started
but you can almost hear the tabloids typing the headlines. Its a lazy story for them
that will get a lot of clicks from online only.

I love this thread. All week its the internet television equivalent of someone ringing a bell wearing a sandwich board proclaiming "THE END IS NIGH"

God, that's rather ominous. Just how much lower than 2.8M can the live figures get when an entire nation of students stop watching live?!

Seriously, other than pride, do you care that it's on Saturday night on BBC1? Would students have something to talk about on a Friday dinnertime if it went out 7pm the night before on BBC3 and was available on the iPlayer or PVRs?

Why would I want the show moved to a different day on a channel which gets far fewer views?
