actually it would be interesting to see how timeshifting affects viewing - for example, I probably watch more of this series as I can watch it when I like, rather than missing it and thinking "oh well". On the other hand, some people may not watch a programme because they can catch up with it later, and then forget. It loses the "must watch" factor.

I would think that people are more selective on what they watch so some programmes (the "good" ones) will get higher ratings as people can choose to watch them, rather than just watching what is on when they are ready to watch tv (having dinner or when tired etc). My mum for example seems only to watch things she has recorded. Apart from eggheads.

The HD figures need to be added to that as I did above.

I think perhaps a little more for the Lodger actually, around the 2 million mark I think.

Right, let me go update the ratings chart.

Considering there was an England game on Saturday, that's not bad going at all. Does that figure include people who recorded it (like me!)and watched later and Iplayer? Either way, it's a lot better than I was expecting, thought the viewing figure might have taken a tumble this week.

.”

I think that people that do record it and watch it are still people that consider it "must watch" else they wouldn't record it. as i said up thread, many people that watch it on the night will be people that are simply channel hopping and settle on the show, not folks that think it's "must watch" tv. I don't think you can generalise in that way.

Take my sister and brother-in-law. They watch every episode, but my sister now works Saturday evening, so they watch it on virgin catch up on a Sunday evening after my niece is in bed. Then if they think it's okay for her (she's only 4 so they tend to avoid the more scary episodes), she watches it on a Monday after play school. Now they are every much loyal fans of the show as anyone that tunes in every Saturday on the dot, but they have made use of the options to watch it they now have to do so in a way that best suits there needs. I actually think it's great and rather liberating that people are increasingly able to watch tv in a way that best suits them.

It would be interesting to know how many people record it and watch it back every week though, and also to know how many record it and don't watch. Though I don't think at this time there is any way of getting the data.

the ratings above are the final ratings for Vincent. We won't get final ratings for the Lodger till next Monday!

Iplayer viewers are not included in final ratings, but are included in the unofficial final reach, along with repeats.

Final ratings include only those that watched the original broadcast within seven days of it airing.

Several people on this very forum, and indeed in this very thread, have stated that they don't watch it on transmission, and yet they clearly wouldn't miss an episode for the world. A friend of mine works as a club doorman on Saturday nights, so rather than rush to get ready for work after Who, he watches it on Sunday morning after breakfast, it's a ritual of his. I really think this is increasingly going to be the way people watch TV in the future.

It's happening more and more, I actually really thought about it the other day and realise the only programmes I have been following live lately are Doctor Who and The Junior Apprentice. Other than live events like sport, I just tend to record stuff to watch later on my sky+.

People who want to consider the overnights more important than final ratings these days are still living in the 1970's, quite frankly.

I think the days of the overnight ratings are numbered, tbh. Give it another five or six years and they will be gone i think.

I'm quite disappointed in the results for Vincent and the Doctor, being the second lowest of Series 5. I would have thought it would have got more.

Which one was episode 8? Was it the first of the Silurian 2 parter?

The ratings are quite good for this point of a series though, look at the comparable ratings, only series 4 topped 7 million. The weather was rather good that weekend as well.

It was also the second most watched BBC programme of the week.

Yes episode 8 was THE.

I have only ever watched two episodes not on the day, and that is TGITF and this year I think it was the beast Below....I think.......the reason i remember TGITF is because something not nice happend, and therefore I couldn't, but I had recorded it....but this year the episode I missed first time round was because of people visiting, so not that memorable....

But yes thinsg like that happen, and you often read a comment here or there of people not being able to watch it live....

First of all, there is a very nice ratings thread here:
http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/forums/s...8#post39415518

I really wish people would make more use of it!

Secondly, rating this year are fine. They are well within the range we have seen in recent years. The only difference is that we have seen a move towards more people time shifting the programme. This is, in itself, something that has been the case year on year since 2005, though it notices more this series due to the lack of a series last year (thus the jump looks bigger).

Series 4 is likely to rate higher, but thats to be expected given it was the culmination of several years of work, but ratings are solid as a rock regardless.

Final ratings to date:
