Didn't mention that the "peak" of viewers for that quiz show weren't actually watching the quiz show. Just switching over for the show that follows it. Many of whom doing so having just watched....Doctor Who.

I don't mind what overnights the show gets as timeshifting shows it is still hugely popular. But I wouldn't mind these pathetic pieces of (ahem) "journalism" being consigned to the dustbin.

Closing Time overnight... 5.3m

I have to admit to being a little disappointed. With the Cybermen coming back i expected a figure closer to 6.0m

Still a good overnight mind.

Interesting stats!

Disappointed with the timeshift but it DID overtake Family Fortunes (shudders at how many watched it lol)

BUT it is still good and Iplayer has always surpassed the 1 million mark just a bit naff online stats dont affect viewers.

Hopefully CLosing Time will fare much better too and the finale will pull it all in. Methinks the Beeb are gonna wig snatch ITV on Saturday Nights B-)

Closing Time had an Appreciation Index, or AI score of 86.

The AI is a measure of how much the audience enjoyed the episode. The score puts the programme in the excellent category.

It seems that 'Closing Time' is also likely to get about 6.7 million, meaning the last 2 episodes are 2 million down on the season opener.

Be interesting to see how saturdays finale goes, I would expect it to be siginificantly up on the last 2 weeks, but will it reach the season high of 8.86 million??

Good luck to it. Is Family Fortunes the Doctor's new nemesis? This year's Graham Norton?

Oh well - I think most people round here are getting bored of saying the overnight's aren't the be all and end all they once were (and bored of getting the response "you would say that wouldn't you"). As long as Doctor Who is still getting good overall ratings and appreciation and isn't seen by the BBC as needlessly hogging a Saturday slot that it has better things for, we're ok. We've definitely got series 7 and series 8 (50th anniversary) is presumably beyond doubt (exact form tba).

So we only need to start worrying about 2014 and beyond. Hopefully the mucking about with budget and back office personnel this and next year will get the budget back on an even keel. And hopefully if detailed audience research has shown the audience are unsatisfied or tired of these "river song / Silence plot" type convolutions, SM will take notice and adapt.

Anyway - I must tape this Family Fortunes thing - it must surely be excellent entertainment!

The editor of DWM has an interesting blog about viewing figures since the show came back:

http://tomspilsbury.moonfruit.com/#/...is-Myth/195123

Also, DWM have said on Twitter that they won't be reporting the overnight figures any more, as they're so different from the Finals as to be useless.

Which makes a lot of sense because a) it's true and b) won't the new, all-inclusive and very shiny, system be up and running for the next series of Who? Makes much more sense to report on that figure if it's available as it's MUCH closer to the true reach of the show.

I like the other bit of his blog where someone had a go at him for lack of loyalty. Because he tweeted that he watches X Factor (so can't be watching Confidential live then). I don't often employ the rolleyes icon, but.....

It is reasonable entertainment although slightly old hat.

Hmmm, that could apply to both of the shows.

Family Fortunes is okay but Vernon Kay is rather annoying.

As to whether or not Saturday night ratings are the be all and end all I though Paul Mount summed it up perfectly on Gallifrey Base.

Haven't seen it since Monkhouse was the Doctor. Does the ghost of Charles Babbage still blow raspberries at them?

Thanks for the referral.

6.1 million, 28.3% share.

A pretty decent performance all in all. Will nudge 8 million with catch ups.

The Wedding of River Song (overnight rating) 6.1m

Bad news for Family fortunes fans... Doctor Who did beat your show last night, Family fortunes forums are in meltdown as we speak!

P.S. Merlin got 5.2m

Edit: M@nterik beat me to it.

News from the Gallifrey Base website.

Quote:
“Doctor Who: The Wedding of River Song had an Appreciation Index score of 86

The score is a measure of how much the audience enjoyed the episode. A score of 86 is considered excellent.

The Sunday repeat had an audience of 0.48 million viewers and a 2.2% share of the audience.

With overnight figures available for the whole week, Doctor Who is currently the 20th most watched programme. Final figures should be available next week.

The final Doctor Who Confidential had an overnight audience of 0.4 million on BBC Three on Saturday.”

Closing time final 6.93 million up from 5.3 million, timeshift of 1.63

1. The Impossible Astronaut – 8.86 million

2. Day of the Moon – 7.30 million

3. The Curse of the Black Spot – 7.85 million

4. The Doctor’s Wife – 7.97 million

5. The Rebel Flesh – 7.35 million

6. The Almost People – 6.72 million

7. A Good Man Goes to War – 7.57 million

8. Let’s Kill Hitler – 8.1 million

9. Night Terrors – 7.07million.

10. The Girl Who Waited - 7.6million

11. The God Complex - 6.77million

12. Closing Time - 6.93million

7.94m - Series 1: Final BARB rating average (13 episodes)
7.71m - Series 2: Final BARB rating average (13 episodes)
7.55m - Series 3: Final BARB rating average (13 episodes)
8.05m - Series 4: Final BARB rating average (13 episodes)
7.73m - Series 5: Final BARB rating average (13 episodes)

Series 6 average so far..... 7.51 million

Considering Wedding of River Song did 6.1 million on overnight it's not unreasonable to assume that S6 will finish around 7.5 million for overnights (probably about 7.53ish if it gets the same sorta timeshift as Closing Time? If it manages a two million timeshift - unlikely but you never know, was a hot day after all - it'd be just over 7.55). Pretty much bang on where you'd expect it to be looking at S3 (the only like-for-like figure we have) and that's excluding the extra viewers that now go via iPlayer which wasn't an option for series 3.

Who in rude health I'd say...
