Ah that is brilliant, so would you agree this is definitely a new peak for Doctor Who with more global recognition as a show and a brand?

Because i had that feeling in the air...especially with series 6 when every week it had that feeling the whole world is watching this EVENT TV! and i have that buzz again this series LOVE IT!

It does have a very good vibe so far. However, being a pessimist, I'm not holding my breath.

It means a great deal actually - greater popularity around the world should cement DW's future as one of THE flagship programmes/exports/brands from the BBC.

Well i am always the optimist...this is brilliant for the shows history!

And means a lot in the bigger scheme of things....ratings are as strong as ever in the Uk and ratings are expanding even more worldwide...EPIC!

Even during the bleak times before the hiatus I watched without fail and thanks to "modern" technology had many episodes on VHS to rewatch during the hiatus. Everything is now of course on my external hard drive. I just wish I'd been able to record the missing episodes so I could share them with everyone.

COMPLETE RUBBISH.

That rating proves that after Eccleston/Tennant/RTD & seven series the British public still love Doctor Who.

On to the next 50 years!!! ”

Oh brilliant!....strong as ever

It is a disaster.....but mind you I have changed the meaning of disaster to awesome!

Not that ratings impact on quality...same as commercial sales etc but it does showcase that Doctor Who will still be around for its 100th Anniversary OOH YEAH!!!”

I believe that if things were to even go "bad" at some point for the show (hopefully never) and it had to be rested for a while, the last seven years prove that it can never actually die....

Love that every year its international fame is growing....as it should...

Doctor who achieved an overnight of 6.6 million for 'a town called mercy' at 7.35pm last night. That is an overnight share of 29.1 per cent. Doctor who followed the 'strictly come dancing' pre recorded show which also proved popular, with an overnight average of 8 million. It gained its highest ever launch show audience giving doctor who a good lead in.

Wow, thanks Strictly! Higher overnight than Asylum!!!

This will be doctor who's highest overnight of the seventh series so far and its the show highest overnight figure since may 2010 with flesh and stone which had an overnight of 6.8 million. (This of course ignoring the christmas day overnights!) Can't it follow strictly every week? The girl who waited had an overnight audience of 6 million last year following the strictly launch show so doctor who series seven is proving more popular.

I think the ratings would go up if the series weren't being split in half.

Blooming heck. If there's a comparable times shift on Mercy then this'll even be above the average final figure for series four - wow! This is brilliant news.

And wasn't the series 4 average somewhat inflated by the massive draw of Journey's End?

Regardless, this is all very, very impressive stuff.

WOah that is so impressive.

I mean series 7 is really top top top notch for the past three weeks, it is so deserving of this success in ratings also too...and about to match/surpass series 4 also...brilliant!

And yes Series 4 had a boost because Journeys End had big final ratings...but still this is brilliant and long hope it continues!

Brilliant move for Moff by having 5 episodes in the Autumn...
