I have just bought a Grundig GDV 720HT 5.1 surround dvd player for my dad. I have a 620 model.

It plays most dvd's ok, however some dvd's that play fine on my player won't on my dad's new one. We seem to get the sound out of the speakers all echoey. I can't find any controls to fix this and have checked all connections are OK (this is proved by the fact that other dvd's play OK).

I don't think it is the actual DVD's.

Any ideas?? It is connected to a Sony Wega widescreen tv.

Switch on the dvd player, no disk playing, and go into the setup option. Go to the sound option, and run the pink test on all speakers. This will check that all your speakers are working correctly.

Make sure that you are using the 5.1 command, not 2.1. When there is no DVD playing, press the 5.1 button.

Then check the audio settings upon the tv, and work your way through them until you find the best setting.

If this doesn't fix your problem, i don't know what is wrong, but i think that the tv, could be set for 3d surround, which can sometimes sound echoey.

If you want, i can give you a dvd hack for this system, so that you can play multi-region & vcds.

Ran the Pink test as one of my initial checks which proved the speakers all work OK.

Also set 5.1 as mentioned.

Worked through the audio settings on the tv and there is a 3d virtual surround setting which I switched off. The problem still happened though.

I think I may have located the dvd hack for this player, but if you have it at hand I don't mind checking it is the same as I havn't applied it.

Heres the hack:

*This first step is not required, but it helps to verify that the hack has worked. Open the cd tray, and press the info/display button on the remote control. A window will appear, and the last 2 digits, should be R2, which is Region 2.

Hack:

Open the cd tray, and enter the code 81328 using the remote control, a window will appear and it should have the current region number, like 2.

Using the enter button on the remote control, navigate to the number 9, and then press the play button. When the cd tray closes, the dvd player will then be multi-region, and will be able to play vcds.

*open the cd tray, and press the info/display button, the R2, should now say R9.

This dvd player can only play vcd, not svcd. I have tested dvd-r, and was successful, but not dvd+r (as i don't use these). Not sure about dvd-rw.

Will also play cd-r, and cd-rw.
