i see in their latest reatil mag the only n series phone is the n73!!

i gotta admit that orange are utter crap, their choice of handsets is getting more and more pathetic by the minute! still since changing their upgrade rules its getting less appealing staying with them

I upgraded to a N95 on December. It's a branded phone and I was surprised to see Orange have accepted an updated version of the firmware. It's not as dead as I thought.

That is false.

Orange certainly haven't dropped all N Series phones. The Nokia N95 8GB is due to be released in May.

And we have a tentative release date for the N96 at the end of Q2.

all said and done though with a small handful of new handsets appearing each month from orange, the choice is still poor. to say the N95 8gb will be released in may 6-8 months behind O2 is further proof. and i bet it goes for a handset cost of about £49-£79. When O2 are now free!!

I agree Orange have been slow to release the N95-2 but they weren't even going to carry it at all, so at least we are getting it.

And with regards to the handful of new handsets released every month comment, sorry but all networks release only a small handful of handsets at a time. Not just Orange.

It's a shame Orange do take so long, its what swayed me to move to O2 in the end.... O2 had the Blackberry Curve 8300 since May 07, and 8310 from Dec, Orange just had the 8320 from around Feb time? (Not to mention their appauling Blackberry tarrif, which is only just getting updated, however the new one does sound very good!)

They just take too long to get their handsets.

On the positive side, I did find their coverage to be excellent.

if were honest though orange do have a more limited selection that that of other operators! sometimes because of handsets failing quality control, yet its their meddling that wrecks them anyway!

good news that were getting the n96 though, unless their software ruins it, although it can always be debranded i suppose....... i still think theyve gone downhill steadily.

on a side note wheres ricardo nowadays?

Orange works very carefully with RIM to get the Blackberry handsets right when releasing them. For example as I've said before Orange's Blackberry's are the only out of the current series with both UMA and Wi-Fi capabilities. IT's why it took us a little longer to test and release them

And in fairness you did get the new Pearl out way before T-Mobile did. I happen to be more interested in integrated GPS than wi-fi though.

I had my frustrations with poor systems at Orange, but the key reason is that magenta pays better than orange. I've been a T-Mobile customer since One2One days so feel an affinity for the brand already.

Last rumor I heard, which I happen to believe, is that Orange and T-Mobile are taking ages to get hte latest N series phones because of a dispute with Nokia.

The dispute being that the newer Nokia phones come with Nokia's music store software pre-installed, and Orange and T-Mobile both have (or are trying to set up) their own music stores.

Like I say it's a rumor that I heard and it sounds believable...ish!

I might go over to O2 for the N95 8Gb is they have a decent tariff! Fed of my N70 now (on T-mobile Flext - which I will be said to leave behind).

Tosh!

Because that would delay all phones from Nokia not just N Series.

Secondly if that was the case I would know about it.

Actually that is not tosh at all. There was a very public spat between Nokia and Orange over Nokia's music plans. Indeed this was the reason given as to why Orange would not range the N81 as it was made for Nokia's music service which is competition to Orange's.

so i wonder why it is then? probably their software meddling that takes the time!

either way i dont care why it takes them ages,

i just care about what future handsets they will be stocking, and if as lawe says they will be stocking the n96 then ill stay with them for a while. although i think ill wait and see what state the phone is in once its released before i jump in, learnt that the hard way with the n73!!

edit: good luck ricardo, hope it goes well, p.s. do t-mobile do any tariffs like the panther ones? free insurance etc..

Thank you Sparkie, from what I've seen so far here the only tariffs that include insurance are the business ones. One thing I like is that Orange retail have nothing to do with insurance claims, the customer making the claim has to do it direct and arrange for a phone to be sent to them; However at T-Mobile you can collect your replacement handset from your local store once the claim has been passed.

No you are putting two and two together there. Just because Nokia and Orange disagreed over the music is not the reason Orange haven't released the handset. If it wasn't for the fact the reason is highly confidential I would let you know. Please don't believe everything you read on the internet.

It was the reason that was widely published at the time. I concede it may be wrong. However Orange did nothing to dispel the stories which happened to be in all the business sections of the broadsheets.

how can a reason over a phone not being stocked be that confidential? its just a phone for god sakes!

although id love to know why they dont stock many good handsets!

and how comes the store brochure doesnt list the n95 anymore?
