Demographic Voting
Mark Boden

Just wondering if any one thinks this will happen?

I'll admit I'm backing my local girl Jodie, but it is still very early in the competition (I'm backing Jodie as I do believe she is the contestant that has entered with the skill and capability to listen to her mentors and grow into the Nacy that ALW is looking for).

If your favourite goes out will you switch to your "Local" nancy?

Go Jodie , You Are My NANCY ! ! ! ! ! !

None of them are really that local to me...The scouse one was knocked out!
But I'm backing Jodie and Jessie, suppose Jodie is the closest!

No, I wouldn't, not one really local enough to me to feel I should back her. Keisha is the nearest and I really just don't like her attitude towards it and isn't a contender for me at all

Nahh....none are really local to me, Ashley being the closest and I'm not particularly fussed either way with her. I'm backing Niamh, so not close at all!

Jo - What I mean is, where will you go IF Niamh goes out. I don't think the demographic voting will start till later on. I.E. Irish voting the the Irish Lasses, Welsh for Welsh, Scots for Scots etc.

I would never back a local girl just for the sake of her being local - if there are people better I would back them, regardless of where they come from. I don't really get this regional thing that goes on with public voting.

I'm from Scotland, so I completely get the whole regional voting thing. I don't agree with it, but it's obvious that by and large Scots vote for Scots, regardless of talent. When you combine the power of the Scottish vote with another section of society, such as overweight people, you get Michelle McManus. The Scottish vote cannot be swayed. The Scottish vote cannot be ignored. Play on your Scottishness and you will always outstay your welcome. I can't help it, them's the rules. Remember the Macdonald Brothers.

Things are looking good for Ashley.

With those dire words of warning, I leave you to get some much needed sleep.

That really is quite worrying, although I have nothing against Ashley!
It may explain why the frankly-rather-ordinary-Craig, and the I'm-frozen-with-terror-in-the-spotlights-Keith stayed for such a long time in Any Dream Will Do.

I think some Scots will vote for the Scot; some Welsh for the Welsh and some Irish for the Irish, but I don't think it's as prevalent as some think - and I know a lot of Scots, Welsh and Irish get really irate that some viewers think they're just a bunch of silly sheep - voting for their own, however good/bad they may be. I certainly wouldn't base my vote on the demographics of a contestant, and if I wouldn't I think it's pretty insulting to assume others would.

I think Sam will be pulling a lot of votes from the Isle of Man. They are very proud to have a manxie in the final 10 and everyone seems to be behind her.

Actually all the evidence is that on any show viewers vote for standout talent if and when it emerges and they don't care where it comes from as long as it does not have a prison record or a bad past. Regionality, gender, age, race etc. only come into play when everything is much of a muchness - and usually on these shows the contestants are pretty equal.

All these things balance out anyway - if you believe all the Scots are voting for the Scots, it follows that the Irish will be voting for the Irish and the English must be voting for the English - or are they voting for the Scots too?

And these ALW shows are not actually talent shows - they are casting shows. It is quite acceptable for people to vote for whom they think best encapsulates Nancy rather than who is the best singer or actor. I think Ashley would make a good Nancy - Nancy is a common street girl with no refinement. I think Ashley does a very good mockney accent and she is suitably rough and ready in her performances.

I was born in Blackpool, and am currently visiting my parents back home, so it's good to see the local paper has a bit of a campaign for Jodie, unsurprisingly. I want to see her do well as she's a local girl, but I'm not backing her exclusively - I'd much rather the best contestant won than the one from 'round my neck of the woods just because of where she's from.

I totally agree. Otherwise it just defeats the point of the show, surely?

I'm voting for Samantha but it has nothing to do with demographics or whatever, I just prefer her to the others.

Out of curiosity though, how many people live on the Isle of Man? Hopefully enough to keep proving John Barrowman wrong!

There are 80,000 in the Isle of Man and I would guess that aleast half are voting for Sam.

I may have just said that I'm not keen on demographic voting, but the other half need to start voting for her as well
