Not Nancy - Niamh, Keisha, Tara

Could be Nancy - Fran, Jessie, Jodie

...Niamh - she looks about 16!

For me there's no clear winner as yet.
Lee and Connie were both stand-out even though I didn't much LIKE Connie but this is more open.

Nor should it be Tara, Samantha or Jessie.

I've got no clear favourite at this stage.

I'm with you about Ashley, Tara, Niamh, and Rachel (and I would also add Keisha into the 'not Nancy' camp).

I think it's a bit unfair to label Samantha as 'dull' though, as that's more down to the editing and the fact that they're hardly allowed to say anything on the actual show before being hurried off. Also, she wasn't featured very much in the early shows, whereas some of the others had a bit of a head-start. I think she comes across as a bit more quiet and reserved off-stage, but that doesn't mean she can't play Nancy well.

Fair enough! I just find Samantha's performances a bit insipid, that's all - she's certainly talented, I'm just not sure I'd want to watch her for three hours.

I take your point, but I'm hoping it's more the fact that she hasn't 'connected' with her live show songs yet. 'I love Rock and Roll' isn't really one you can show much emotion with, and 'See the Day' is a bit repetitive and didn't really allow for the vulnerability that they seemed to be looking for.

Also, Nancy isn't on stage for the whole 3 hours so it's not like whoever plays her would have to keep you entertained for that long

None of them have really stood out (like Daniel and Lee did for me last year). I don't think Keisha, Tara or Rachel. I'm also not that keen on Jessie. Slight favourite is Sarah but do want to see more of acting ability of them all.

I would say a definite no to:

Tara - can't stay in tune and there are too many big, exposed notes in the role
Niamh, Sam, Francesca, Rachel - pop singers, it's not a pop part
Keisha - major weaknesses shown last week. Very limited in her style
Jessie - doesn't have the experience or emotional range. Voice also probably too thin
Jodie - fine for a good am dram group, nowhere NEAR strong enough for 8 performances a week in the West End
Ashley - inconsistent and does not have enough presence
Sarah - not the right type to be Nancy. Much suited to the sweeter soprano parts.

Oops that leaves nobody!

Harsh, but not totally unfair! The ones who have stood out so far for me are Rachel, she is not very noticeable off stage, but seems to come alive on stage, Jessie, I do think she looks the part, and Jodie, she has something that you warm to, probably what denise would call an emotional connection with the audience.

I probably am being harsh!!! But it's so disappointing that this is the best 12 out of the thousands who auditioned.

I don't like Jessie at all. She's far too young and squeaky clean although I do think she has potential for other roles. I think I probably like Jodie and Ashley best but don't think either of them could really cut it in a quick transfer to the West End.

Niamh. She looks to young and delicate to be credible

Jodie. She looks to matronly and is too brassy and irritating

Tara and Keisha are not good enough even to appear on the West End stage IMO

Fran. She looks to classy and posh

I have to say I'm not sure I've seen Nancy yet. My favourite is Jodie because she makes me laugh a lot and she reminds me of a friend of mine but I can't even see her as Nancy, more as the innkeeper's wife in Les Mis (a role which was surely made for her)!

Those who definitely aren't Nancy:

Niamh (the girl can't sing, she screeches and she's far to waif like for Nancy)
Keisha (she hasn't got the personality for brash Nancy)
Samantha (try as I may I cannot remember what she is like at all - unmemorable)
Rachel (another screecher)
Tara (cannot sing)
Ashley (again the personality isn't right and the singing ain't there either)
Fran (I just don't like her and for a professional she's not much good)
Sarah (as much as I hate to say it she's just too sweet - she'll go the way of Daniel Boyes last year)

That just leaves Jodie who I think is suited for other parts though she just about fits my image of Nancy and Jessie who is covered by some of the crticisms I have of the others but has just enough to overcome them IMHO.

I agree with this; I like Jessie, but can't really see her as Nancy. And I honestly can't see what the judges see in Niamh - they praise her to the hilt every week....WHY?

In fact, mostly I find them all much of a muchness, which is disappointing as when they were in Andrew's house for the final 12 to be picked, I thought they showed far more talent, and I find myself watching the program thinking is this really the best that the whole of the UK could come up with?

I'm not sure why people can't envision Ashley as a Nancy? I'm not actually voting for her, but she's up there among my favourites. I think her song choices have been poor- but her voice is amazing! And she can act, as far as we've seen.

Girls I don't think are Nancy?

-Tara (I don't even understand why she's in the competition! Her voice is too nazel.)
-Naihm (I love her voice, but I don't think she's a nancy.)
-Keisha (She seems like she's maybe a one trick pony?)
-Samantha (I don't think her voice is suited to the part...)

The rest all have potential. Personally I'd like to see Sarah, Jodie or Ashley win, but I think Rachel, Sam and Jessie are emerging as ALW's pets.

Girls who aren't Nancy:

Keisha: 50/1 Total outsider with no tiger in the tank
Tara: 50/1 Just about everything wrong with this girl
Ashley: 28/1 Boring girl who ALW thought might go this week
Francesca: 18/1 Was bottom last week and looks all wrong for the part
Jodie: 9/1 ALW’s comment about her weight and songs that don’t suit, say it all
Sarah: 10/1 Nice cuddly girl but lacks grittiness (good voice though)

Girls who could be Nancy:

Jessie: 2/1 Fav. Gritty, great voice, her acting is very erratic and over played
Rachel: 5/2 2nd Fav. Experienced, can sing well and strong actress. Made ALW tingle.

Most suited to be Nancy:

Samantha: 7/1 Beautiful voice, ALW says she could be Nancy, short on real grit
Niamh: 8/1 ALW called her World Class, Just watch his face when she sings. Urchin from the streets of Belfast, Raw talent praised every week, great actress (few will know this yet), needs to add a few pounds.

The last 4 all get consistently strong comments from the judges.

NOT Nancy
Tara, Keisha, Niamh (great but too fragile), Sarah (even when she tries she can't help having a smiley appearance about her).

NANCY
Jessie, Jodie, Samantha

Which Leaves francesca, Rachel (I just think there might be better parts for them more suited to them but Iknow that many would disagree)
And Ashley I see some potential but not enough at the mo!

Voila!

We don't know for sure which one of the three young ones ALW was referring to. After they had all sung he said that one of them was 'potentially world class'. It's not really possible to tell from the clip whether he's referring to Niamh, Jessie, or Samantha, so I think the jury's still out on that one

It's a bit harsh to say DEFINITELY NOT NANCY- it should be "IMO, I don't think **** should be Nancy"

Personally, I think Niamh is awesome, would love to see her play the part.

She might be a bit young, but age is only a number after all

no one on here seems to think she can do it- SHE CAN

I just hope she proves everyone wrong

I wouldnt like to see Tara as Nancy. Dont like her

Watch the faces of JB and ALW, and tears and when they start (only when Niamh is singing)....and

a "world class" performer doesn't get slammed for their acting (Jessie) and doesn't get voted to leave as one of the worst of the night (Samantha). A world class performer gets praised every week (Niamh).

I think you're totally overplaying this card myself. If it was Niamh ALW was talking about, and if he does rate her so very highly, then why did he say, on Saturday that Samantha was 'the first one I've seen tonight with the makings of a true Nancy'? I don't think I need to remind you that Niamh peformed first.

The jury is out on who he was talking about at the audition stage and I've watched ALW for three years now in these shows and I've learnt not to read too much into the facial expressions. I've seen what I could only describe as constipated gurning during a performance and then heard him praise it to the high hills.

For the record, I do like Niamh and think she's talented. But she wouldn't be my pick for this part

No need to be patronising, I do make my living doing this.

FWIW, that is not what ALW said. He said

"of the girls I have seen tonight, you have the makings of a real Nancy". Thats is not the same as you are implying with your distorted quote.

On the issue of ALW's feelings being obvious on his face as to how he sees Niamh, you need to look again.

I don't rule Samantha out, she could play the part as I stated in my previous post.
