No particular order tho

Not Nancy: Tara (how is she still there?)
Ashley
Keisha
Samantha (don't understand why she's well-liked? Not the strongest voice, not a great actress and not very Nancy-like in personality)

My favourites would be Francesca, Rachel, Sarah. I love Niamh's voice but just not quite sure if she's Nancy. Jodie also like very much but, along with Jessie, they don't seem strong enough actresses.

I'm not quite sure how you can say Samantha is 'not very Nancy-like in personality'?

It's only week 2, we don't really know that much about their personalities yet - apart from the few who were featured heavily in the audition shows.

Anyway, that's where the acting comes in. The acting clips only showed her forgetting her lines, not that she was a bad actress. It's far too early to tell that imo.

Not Tara - she's not Nancy or any other West End Stage show IMO

and not Keisha - too polished

Keisha too polished?? Hmm, how do you get that impression?

Well I feel with someone like Jodie for instance, she doesn't have in my opinion the strongest voice (or at least the most theatrical voice) and neither is she the greatest actress of the lot, but she has a great charm and could easily fit her personality with that of Nancy. There is something innate about her that suits the role. THough having said this she isn't my favourite yet.

But with Samantha, I don't feel her personality being conveyed when she sings or otherwise. I feel she's a bit too young for the part. And whereas Niamh is the same age, her performances have shown extra maturity and a greater acting talent.

Alright, we haven't seen much acting per se, but her performance on the task where the pressure of a West End audience was absent was pretty bad. The other girls didn't make that kind of mistake, and so I think she is weaker. Indeed, some managed to give stellar performances as well as learning the part in that short space of time.

Finally, acting is clearly a huge part of their singing performances too, and there are other Nancys who convey the song meaning etc so much better. I agreed with John that her performance was emotionally empty. Not a patch for instance on Leanne's performance of the same song on HDYSAPLM, who was also of a similar age.

Sorry this is a bit long, but I just wanted to explain my thoughts a bit more.

No need to apologise - I did ask the question after all!

I take your point about the fact that - from the clip we saw - she didn't help herself by forgetting her lines. But no criticisms were shown of her actual acting. Jessie and Jodie may have remembered their lines, but did have their performance criticised. Also, we didn't see all the girls perform that task, so it's a bit unfair to pick her out as the only one who made that kind of mistake - we don't know that for sure. The girls who gave 'stellar' performances' were the likes of Rachel, Francesca (my second fave incidentally) and Sarah - who have all had a lot more training and experience - so that was hardly a surprise.

I agree that Samantha does need to work on conveying a bit more warmth in her performances, but I don't think she's yet had a song that really needs that emotion. Apparently her song this week is really different to what she's done before, and she has said that she wants to prove John wrong (according to the voice coach).

I honestly think the longer she stays in the competition, the better she will get. I would agree though that she has a lot more to learn, particularly about acting, than some of the others.

Yes, I think this time around it's going to be much more about the old "journey" than on previous occasions. It seems to me that quite a few of them could pull off playing Nancy already but it's still wide open. I'm not quite putting Samantha up there yet, but perhaps in time she'll improve. I can see her having more room for improvement over the likes of Tara and Ashley for sure. I guess some voices just grab you as having a special quality which hers hasn't so far. Will have to wait for tonight to see if she proves me very wrong indeed!

As I've said further up the thread, the Boz sketches in the original novel show a fairly chubby little girl for Nancy. I think a lot of productions have gone for the buxom, curvy tart with a heart type but if you are absolutely going to be true to the original then she is short and dumpy!

I don't think physicality is really that bit a deal for the role - as long as she isn't so strong she could over-power Bill with one punch, which is sometimes the impression Keisha gives!

Ashley.
She has all the front for sure but to me she seems rather charmless.

I would like Rachel to go this week, but I can't see that happening at all. Even if she was in the bottom two, I'm sure ALW would save her in a flash. The whole panel seems to be in love with her, but I'm just not getting it.

All of them, really. But Tara's the least competent at anything so I'd be most pleased to see her go.

I'm still not seeing a Nancy. Although surprisingly, Jodie - when she drops the caricatured barmaid cum end of pier act - could become one perhaps. I saw this for the first time tonight.

Sarah as well, who I haven't really noticed so far, is snaking ahead. But that's not because she'd suit being Nancy more because she's less objectionable and is seeming more talented than a lot of the others, who get weaker by the week.

Welcome!

Such a negative first post!(just kidding)

Maybe you should balance your Karma out with a positive Nancy post on Samantha (again just kidding)

I suppose I can only improve from this one.

I can't wait to see the acting training that goes along with this role - Those that already having the acting experience may be unable to show the public (its their vote after all) any vast improvement.

I do believe within this competition, as your favourite is (hopefully not) eliminated, the public will begin to look at those that have improved the most from the previous week, however as I've said in a prior thread this is when I believe demographic voting comes into play, - my favourites gone, who shall i vote for now - my local lass.

However - Go Jodie - WIN WIN WIN

Not sure about that. Even when (i would say 'if' but don't want to tempt fate ) my fave goes, my vote (if I decide to make one) would go to who I think is the next 'best' in my opinion - regardless of where they live.

I can't believe these comments. Do you really take notice of Van Outen I any case the same could be said of about haf the others but we hear nothing

NB Keisha is an OK singer but as Nancy she would be big enough to give Bill Sykes a good hiding

After hearing their "cockney" accents in the group number, several o them are out of the running in my mind.

Surely that'd be the first thing they'd nail when trying to be Nancy?

Having said in an earlier post that I didn't think Jodie had a very theatrical voice, well, I'm now retracting that one! Send in the Clowns was incredible, and possibly (with Sarah) the performance of the night. She conveyed it so brilliantly.

As for voting your most local, I'm Welsh and certainly would never vote for Tara! Having said that, I kind of feel a little bit of favouritism for Sarah and Fran just cos they're Welsh. Which is silly, but I do like them anyway. It just helps that they're from a great singing nation.
