Here is your chance chaps. I'm opening up the trans-Atlantic internet tube and accepting questions with regards to the US run of Big Brother.

I'm sure you are intrigued with the strange happenings and behavior of our houseguests (err sorry housemates) and might want a little cram course into the nonsense that makes BBUS tick.

Fire away and I'll try to answer as many questions as you throw out. I've seen every season since USBB1 and while I'm not an expert on everything I have followed enough to offer satisfactory answers to your quandaries.

Hey!

Something I was wondering is once the show is over, do the houseguests become 'celebrities' the way they do in the UK? Over here HGs try all sorts to stay in the limelight.

Well this guy made a thread about asking him questions, so I thought I'd ask one.

Problem?

What are Americans' views on the UK BB? Do they prefer it to the US format or not?

Hi there

just a couple of questions:-

when do they show the sequester house? Do you get a live feed for it in the US?

do you get lots of people hanging around outside the house trying to see the hgs?

have they got a massive budget? The food games always seem to involve so much food (asparagus, chocolate baths etc)

thanks - just wondered - I love the US BB show because they are all so competitive and don't hide the fact that it is a game and they are playing it.

I think they will probably start showing the sequester house this week. And yes CBS is a big nework, so they have a huge budget. I dont know about people around the house, but in some seasons, they had planes fly over the house to leave banner messages, even in BB9 they did.
For Live feed, they have an nternet feed you can subscribe to, and they have a channel showtime, that shows live after 9pm.
Check your messages btw, I will PM you

Very very few houseguests become much of anything mediawise after the show wraps. The British tabloids are relentless with your housemates. Our tabloids hound A-listers but nowhere near to the extent it's done over there. For example, the tabloids here don't give a toss about Victoria Beckham but if Tom Cruise as much as farts in an elevator we'll hear about it for weeks.

Those that have had relative success include Dr. Will from BB2 and All-Stars who parlayed his appearance into a series called Dr. 90210, a reality/makeover type show. Jamie Kern from BB1 is a newsreader in Portland. Most everyone else went back to their hometowns and are rarely ever heard from again.

Over here, the game is all about the money first and foremost and if it become something more along the lines of television appearances or movies then that's great too but it doesn't happen much.

It's a mixed bag. I enjoy the UK series quite a lot but it has been lackluster lately when compared to Kinga funning around with a wine bottle . The Shilpa/Jade row did make national news over here but that was the only time the UK series was ever mentioned. It's fair to say that Big Brother himself is an important character to your show. The Big Brother in Australia is a right bastard and I wished our version borrowed some elements from UK and AUS so our houseguests would actually fear Big Brother instead of being coddled. Also, Davina is much more animated as a host in compared to The Chenbot. That's the biggest surprise first time viewers of the UK series notice.

Obviously, the UK tasks can be minimalistic due to a smaller production budget but they at least keep them busy as opposed to the massive amounts of downtime houseguests in the US have. I enjoyed the no-sleep task and the pool swim from last summer.

So to answer your question, the casual fan knows nothing about BBUK and hardcore BB fans follow right along just as you do except we have no means of watching the feeds through any "legal" means since you get them over the air on terrestrial channels that we obviously can not get.

Personally, I absolutely love what you guys did with The Apprentice. That series is fantastic! SAS over The Trump any day of the week.

Hi there

just a couple of questions:-

when do they show the sequester house? Do you get a live feed for it in the US?
Hi to you too
We have always wished for a feed from the jury house but it has never happened yet. There was a problem during BB All-Stars (BB7) where fans figured out the Jury House was in Palm Springs and fans went out there to meet the cast. It's rumored the houseguests snuck out of the house one night and went to a bar without their handlers and sang karaoke with fans (there were pictures). Whether or not things about the game were compromised has never been disclosed.

Keep in mind, jury members only see the HOH competitions, nominations, and POV meetings. They see nothing else and I believe their handlers prevent them from discussing with each other what has happened since their evictions. For example, Matt will be oblivious to what has happened over the last 3 weeks (he was first to goto sequester) and Joshuah (recent evictee) will not be able to fill in the gaps for him.

Outsiders could potentially taint the jury by telling them things going on in the house they would never find out until after the show is over. Since that leak occurred CBS has been very reluctant to show the location of the Jury House for fear it could happen again. We will likely not see any footage from the Jury House until near finale I'm afraid.

do you get lots of people hanging around outside the house trying to see the hgs?
The house is on a studio lot called CBS Television City, Hollywood. Many tv shows are taped there. Anybody sneaking onto the lot will get a one way ticket to jail for trespassing. The only time there has been a live audience was during BB1 which was the same format as all Big Brothers worldwide. BB1 was also an abysmal failure. Nowadays the only time there is a live audience is Finale Night. Most of the audience is filled with friends and family and very few tickets are available to the general public but they can be acquired if you have connections.

have they got a massive budget? The food games always seem to involve so much food (asparagus, chocolate baths etc)
In comparison it's quite obvious there is a much larger budget to work with. That's just the nature of television production over here, it always has to be big and the networks bleed a ton of money into all their shows. It's obscene.

thanks that's interesting - I think it is better that the public can't yell things over the wall and spoil it - makes it much more interesting if they really don't know what is happening outside. I am really hooked on the BB US version at the moment

No she was paired with Josh in the game but Jacob - who entered the house in the beginning was her ex. He has since been voted out.

Hi Robnoxious. Thanks for putting this thread up. BB9 is my first series of the US BB and I am enjoying it so much I just watched the whole of BB8 this week. Loved every bit of it - especially the gorgeous E.D.

Just a couple of questions re this series. Are Nick/Daniele or Eric/Jessica still together?

Do Dick and Dani still get on - hope so - he made me cry

What was the "153" code Dani and Nick had.

Is there any other season you could recommend I watch that would be as good as BB8.

Thanks again for taking time to answer our questions - interesting thread.

Hi, here are your answers:
Daniele and Nick aren't together any more, Eric and Jessica are.
Dick and Dani still see each other and are getting along....so far LOL
The 153 code was never revealed. Julie did ask, but Daniele refused to answer, although speculation says it stands for I heart you, or I adore you
BB6 is an excellent season, so is BB2 and All stars. Different people have different preferences, so others will suggest other seasons.

Hi Hopskotch and you are welcome. I'm a huge study of this show far more than I should be.
Nick & Daniele are no longer together buuuut Nick and Dingbat Jen are ! Yes, the same Jen that drove E.D. up the wall in BB8. And even though it's been answered all ready, I'll add that not only are Eric & Jessica still together, Jessica is pregnant with Eric's baby and they have or will be married very soon. If you rewatch an earlier episode (Jen and Parker were still in the house) this season when Eric And Jessica hosted a competition you can see Jessica had the beginnings of a baby pouch showing.

Do Dick and Dani still get on - hope so - he made me cry
Daddy has a little bit of fame and money. Danielle is a materialistic bleach blonde bubblehead (I can say this because I live in Huntington Beach just like Danielle and I can't take two steps without bumping into a carbon copy of Danielle everyday). It's safe to say Dick and Danielle reconciled.

Is there any other season you could recommend I watch that would be as good as BB8.
My personal opinion of BBUS goes like this:

BB2 > BB6 > BB3 > BB8 > BB7 (All-Stars) > BB1 > BB4 > BB5

BB4 had the "twin twist" which was very cool until the reveal and then you couldn't stand either one of them. BB5 had a horrible cast of macho dumbasses (Jase and Scott Savage) and just plain dumbass (Cowboy). I rate these two seasons low because I really disliked the casts.

BB7 was a special case since it had returning houseguests and they were very wary of each other and the inner workings of the game but I think they hammed it up a bit thick for the cameras. It would be a good series for watching the broadcasts but the live feeds were a chore that year.

BB2, BB6 and BB3 were stellar.

The twins twist was from BB5 not BB4. It was project DNA and included both the twins and cowboy and Nakomis. As well as the 4 horsemen.
BB4 was the one with the Exes, were June won and had Allison and Erika votef into All Stars

Very well then, they both sucked on the whole. Those two seasons are a blur to me.

I always mix those two up.

I'm sure the casual viewing public only gets James as an underdog fighting to survive (the type we tend to root for). Since our BB doesn't have front page tabloid drama appeal, the average viewer will only see him as an eccentric opportunist. Anyone who really follows the show knows about his gay porn background.

No one buys his bicycling around the world angle as some sort of noble cause or humanitarian experiment. He's what we call an attention whore. How could someone with pink hair and a Brawny paper towels tattoo not have "Look at me, look at me!" syndrome. James is quirky... nothing more.
