Having downloaded a programme to my PC, is there any way I can play it on my 42" plasma? I have it connected to Sky HD with a DVD player and surround sound also connected it an xbox.

You have a few options...

1. Connect PC to TV if you have the right connectors on both PC (VGA/DVI) and TV (VGA/DVI/HDMI) and the leads.

2. Burn downloaded movie to DVD, play on DVD player (or Xbox360).

3. Mod Xbox-original, install XBMC, transfer movie to Xbox, and play.

Thanks for that. What's the quality going to be like?

Depends on the quality of the file you've downloaded and the method you decide to use to display it on the big screen.

Unless it's a pretty high quality file, chances are it's gonna look a bit blocky on a screen that size. It'll still be perfectly watchable though.

How long is the video and what size is the file, that should give us a fair idea ....

With my Xbox modded original connected to my Samsung 37" and movies at 700Mb, and TV episodes at 350Mb, are all very good because the Xbox/XBMC outputs good PQ and the Samsung upscales very well. I'm not too sure how this will perform on a 42" plasma (what is the make?)

BTW, burn to DVD to play: you might need to convert to DVD-Video or buy a DivX/Xvid DVD player. Converting from DivX/Xvid back to DVD-Video will degrade the PQ even further, you might need movies at 1400Mb in size to get a decent DVD-Video picture after conversion...

Have you also modded it to output an HD signal?

I just softmodded my old Xbox so I can use it as a media player in the bedroom. Got myself some component cables for it, set it to NTSC (Enigmah) and now have XBMC outputting a 720p signal to the 19" LCD I have it connected to. Videos are still upscaled obviously (it's a bit lacking in power to play back proper HD files I believe .... might give it a try with a couple of 720p ones though) but still look pretty good.

Have to say, I'm mightily impressed with what you can do with a modded Xbox. Never really looked into it until last week but once I got started I couldn't stop fiddling with it.

Have now gone as far as buying an access point for it so I can hook it into my network wirelessly.

Great fun!

No, I haven't, but the output is still pretty good for me

Yes, well done, I forgot about the cable enabling 720p output!
