Same here. I'm in total agreement with you here. The second people start having a low fat anything they believe its now good for them, so they eat more or its diet buscuits, the more i eat the more i lose

For example, ooo i really fancy a buscuit, i'm not hungry, so no need to eat, but i'll still eat anyway, then eat multiples because its ok because its "low fat".

I until last year use to eat low fat everything, drink diet everything, i cannot belive how stupid i was!

If you want a coke, have a coke. Not a diet coke, a COKE. When i started doing this i found first off i could not drink more than 1 glass of coke, it was filling, and i felt sastisified from and it and really enjoyed it was so nice. If i wanted another drink i wanted water, because i did not want another coke, 1 was enough.

If it was diet coke, i would not feel full or satisified off it, i would just keep drinking it and drinking it, its diet no? good for me? all those chemicals, artifical sweetners, caffene, no calories....

There is no healthier alternative to fatty/sugary foods/drinks. They are treats and when treated as treats become part of a healthy lifestyle. All these low fat /sugar free versions are much worse for you as they are either processed or full of checmicals to take the place of the sugar and fat.

Its the diet foods, diets, and diet mentality that i think is keeping us overweight and unhealthy now.

Trolls are out early today

I won't bite, danger is this discussion will only send a useful thread off on a tangent.

What? I'm a troll because I think diet food is much more unhealthy because of all the additives involved.

Kettle and pot, mate.

Porridge!

I hated it all my childhood and then tried it again about a year ago after reading how good it is for you.

I now have a medium sized helping, drizzled with a little honey and lightly sprinkled with some raisins and mixed seeds (sunflower and pumpkin) for a bit of crunch.

This beats highly salted/sugary cereals and staves off the hunger pangs for longer.

Agreed 100%. 'Diet' food has reduced fats but these are replaced with starchy fillers and sugars, reduced sugar stuff is filled with artificial sweetner and flavourings. Also because they are 'fat free' and 'sugar free' and reduced calorie people tend to eat double the amount, result, excess insulin production and fat storage with no effort at all. I would never touch the so called 'healthy' stuff and would rather plump for a big fat juicy fat on steak with a dollop of butter. The fat and calories are high but sugars are non existent and my insulin would not be stimulated, result, my body will utilise the proteins and fats and I will also be satisfied for double the time of a 'healthy' ready meal. I know what healthy food I prefer and that is real food that has lived and breathed and eaten grass not fake food made in a laboratory.

Well some of us do use these products to help us, so maybe we can be left to share our tips with each other eh?!

Personally, I don't eat twice as much of the "diet" foods. Where I would have had 2 sausages before, I replace them with 2 low fat sausages, where I had some grated cheese before I now have even less grated cheese, and it's the low fat stuff, where I would have had 2 packets of crisps this time last year, I now have one packet of reduced fat crisps, where I would have had a massive dollop of butter on my potatoes, I now have a small amount of Lurpak lighter, etc etc etc. Believe it or not, although I use some "diet" products, I'm not an idiot... and I've lost over 5 stones in the last 8 months, through watching my eating and going to the gym.

So back on topic I have another tip...
Special K Chocolate Flavour Mini Breaks (yes for the same calories I could have a chocolate digestive, but I like them and think they're a bit more filling and healthier).

Same here Raspberri! And well done for losing the weight. I have gone from a podgy size 12 with a fat belly to a trim size 10 with almost a flat belly. I still have some way to go, but I am enjoying going to the gym to tone up, while controlling my diet as well.

At the end of the day, some people can control their weight while eating full fat and full sugar items, but I CANNOT. I also cannot give up cheese, sausages, fizzy pop, crisps, milk, etc, so I do the next best thing and have the less naughty versions instead. I do still have takeaway or a restaurant meal once a week, but for everyday eating I still need to keep it low fat/low sugar but still as tasty as poss.

Porridge oats are fab. I have dried oats mixed with yoghuts for breakfast and a banana milkshake (1 banana & milk in blender). In winter make porridge with milk and add stewed apples and cinnimon yum!!

I've become a Dried Apricot fan mmmmm

I love porridge. It is a shame we do not have porridge bars down south.

I'm another porridge convert - can't believe I didn't use to like it, oats are one of my fave things thesedays!

I do make it with skimmed milk though, I can't understand people thinking it's not nice, I way prefer it and can drink it by the pint.

There's nothing like having your oats every day!

But I draw the line at putting salt on!

Thanks Well done to you too.

Re the posts about porridge, I've never liked it but I quite like oats in cereal bars etc, so I'm going to buy some and try it again.

I have never eaten porridge...decided as a child I didn't like it but since my taste buds and appetite has really changed in the last couple of years its time to re-evaluate , I think I'll make some at the weekend !

Asda Good For You or Tesco Light Choices garlic and herb soft cheese. This stuff is very tasty, tastes really creamy and is as nice as the full fat stuff. Sometimes I use it instead of butter/marge on sandwiches. It's just like Philadelphia but much cheaper at around 60p a tub.

[ Got any good ones to add?[/quote]

Have you tried these low fat soft cheeses stuffed into a skinless chicken breast.

Cut a pocket in the breast fillet, stuff with garlic and herb soft cheese, wrap in foil and bake in the oven. A very acceptable low fat alternative to Chicken Kiev.

Being the resident Chocoaholic I guess its my job to offer up some lighter Chocolatebar alternatives.... See below for their reviews

Kit Kat Senses is a new bar that contains only 162 kcal --> http://chocolatemission.blogspot.com...at-senses.html

Cadburys Creme Egg contains arounf only 175 kcal and less than 5g of fat -->
http://chocolatemission.blogspot.com...creme-egg.html

US bars - 3Musketeers Mint contains only 150 kcal and only 5g of fat -->
http://chocolatemission.blogspot.com...eers-mint.html

Finally not overly reccommended but..these Paynes goodies offer a nice little snack at under 200 kcal each -->
http://chocolatemission.blogspot.com...h/label/Paynes

to be honest though chocolate isnt probably the thing you want to be eating if your on a diet....though as I have posted above there are healthy alternatives!
