Hi All.

My T816 Wharfedale (250DTR i think) keeps locking up. It was OK for around six months, then started to lock up occasionally (once a week or so), which was has been happening for a few weeks now. However, last night it locked up three times! When locked up, none of the buttons on the machine or remote work, the display on the box freezes, and the machine needs to be power-cycled at the mains.

Has anyone else seen this with theirs? I'm using SW 3.7.

My HD is nearly full (probably around 90% full), so I'm wondering if that's got anything to do with it (though there is no good reason why the box should lock up just because the HD is nearly full...)

Cheers, Rich.

What are you doing when it locks-up? For example were you watching Live TV? If so did you try simply try changing channels. Sometimes the unit does what is described as "freezing" when watching live TV and channel changing usually clears this. Freezing can be triggered by using the EPG search in "Genre" mode.

Sometimes if you have been using the remote very actively, particualrly using FF and RW the unit can appear to lock up but if you wait a while (maybe 30 secs or so) the unit springs to life again and immediately executes any remote commands stored whilst it was "frozen".

I have had my unit (also on 3.7) with the HD virtually full on occasions without any increased problems except somewhat slower access to the Library and time to delete recordings.

Hi.

Thanks for the reply.

I have seen the PVR lock up in a variety of situations:

1 - When watching live tv - in this situation, the TV continues OK, but none of the buttons work, on either the remote or the box itself, this includes the standby button.

2 - In standby - The clock freezes, and none of the buttons work (on either remote or the box itself), so it's impossible to get the machine out of standby. If left in this state, any scheduled timers to not record.

3 - When not watching TV and recording - Same as when it freezes in standby, except the recording stops, although the hard-disk remains spinning.

In all situations, the only way i can get the box out of it's frozen state is to do a hard power-cycle.

An actual example was on Monday night when i set the box up to record a film on (i think) Channel 4 that started at around 1 or 2am. I came down in the morning, at around 6:30, and the PVRs clock was showing 02:09(am), none of the buttons were working, the HD was still spinning, and I had to do a hard power-cycle. Needless to say the hard-drive didn't contain all of the film I'd asked it to record.

If I can find the reciept I'm thinking of taking it back to Argos.

Cheers, Rich.

To me this sounds like a faulty unit, so returning it is the best option.
