Hi

I've got a Toshiba 36ZP48, it must only be 3 or 4 years old and the it seems to have turned everything pink!

There have been a few bangs and cracks out of the back of it over the past few weeks. Has the tube gone?

Is it worth getting fixed, can you even get a CRT telly fixed nowadays?

Or am I off to buy a new Panasonic plasma .....

Any help or suggestions greatly appreciated

Impossible to say without seeing it, but it certainly has a good chance of being the CRT.

My Beko CRT telly went green after a year, luckily the warranty was still just under a year by a couple of days, so got it repaired for free.

However the engineer quoted £200 for a new CRT.

It would be worth getting it looked at in case it isn't the big valve.

I had exactly the same problem with my old CRT. Everything went a hue of pink/purple. This was temporarally fixed by whacking the side of it.

Of course, eventually I did buy a new TV.

Had the tube go on my 5 year old LG 32" CRT tv recently . Got worse over a couple of months. First I had it occasionally go to a green screen with scanning (diagonal) lines across the screen . Then It got worse and had the picture go low contrast , the colours looking dark and sometimes a red screen with scanning (diagonal) lines across the screen . Phoned up a local tv repairman (from a advert in the local paper) who was prettty sure it was the tube. Best thing for you to do is phone up/visit a local tv repair shop (ask round friends to see if they reconmend any or look for a local one in the paper or on the internet) see what they say and if they do think its worth repair try to get a rough estimate of the cost. As mine was tUneconomic to repair I've ordered a new LCD tv which is comming tommorrow.

To put the tin hat on a s*** day, just driven back from the football at Blackpool winning 1-0 with 8 minutes to go and lost 3-1. I'll watch out tomorrow crossing the road ..............

No-one has been near it with a magnet recently have they?

They will make your TV go bonkers with multi-colours on screen. Takes a few hours for it to go away, but it might be something simple. Don't worry yet. Banging it on the side certainly won't help it!

This is probably a faulty DFS module, this problem with this set is known to Toshiba if you check out AVForums.com there are extensive threads covering the soulution to this in the CRT section.

It involves calling Toshiba (you'll find the number in the CRT section) and making them aware of the problem, they'll supply the replacement module free of charge but will only send it to
a qualified TV repairer for installation which will of course cost ya.

All of the above is predicated it on the problem being a faulty DFS module which in all likelyhood it is.

Hope that helps.

Hey peneau, you're right.!

TV guy came on Friday and its exactly as you said it was.

The only thing is, he's ordering me the part and fitting it for £160. I'll give Toshiba a ring in the morning and see if I can get the part sent to the repair man for free.

Many thanks ................

I had a faulty tube replaced free of charge by Toshiba even though it was at least a couple of years out of warranty.
I had to pay the labour charge to have it fitted but it was still only peanuts compared to the cost of a new tube.
Speak to the customer services dept. nicely.

the set is under coverplan, so the repair was free - but the cost on the sheet is a whopping £385.56 just for the tube!

it was also called a "cost effective repair"

That's just how the insurance works it out, they usually devalue the worth of the set by 10% per year - so for a three year old set as long as the repair is less than 70% of the new cost, then it's a viable repair.

I replaced the LCD in a Sony last week under 5 year 'warranty', the lady at the insurance company OK'd the price, but mentioned that it was only £30 under the write-off price.

i paid £600 for a £1200 set (as it was end of line), 5 years ago.
