So i watched the show already and can i just say IMO this week Jason Castro knocked it out of the park.
I won't spoil anything but the version he did of this song is my favourite version anyway and he was absolutely superb.
Michael Johns i thought was good but just good.
David A predictable.
Sayesha bores me
Kirsty probably her best week
Brooke was ok

Carly and David Cook had a very weak night this week.

Normally, I don't care too much what they sing. When I saw that Michael was attempting 'Dream On' I just had to watch the performance early to see how he would do.If he nailed it, I would have been very impressed. That is one of my all-time favorite songs to listen to, as well as one of my favorite songs to sing. It took me weeks to be able to nail that song, and in my oppinion it is one of the toughest rock songs to sing.It is one of those songs where, if you can't sing it with the range, power, and control it takes to do it right, DON'T.
Sorry, but if I could, I would vote Michael off the show this week for being foolish enough to try that song. The first half was very good, although a bit too imitative...the second half was an uncontrolled pitchy mess of a whooping-fest . Okay, in fairness, it is difficult to sing the end notes, but knowing this, he should never have tried. He did what most people do when they try this song, which is mess up at the end. I know, it's just a song , get over it. I just had to rant, because I love the song and hate hearing it butchered.
Having said this, if he would have sung a different Aerosmith song like Misery maybe, he would have sounded great. He has a similar sound to Steve Tyler , but nowhere near the range or power.(shouting isn't the same as power)

Some very interesting predictions from Dial Idol this week: http://dialidol.com/asp/predictions/Predictions.asp

Spoiler
They put the order as:

Safe
David A
Jason
Kristy

At risk
Brooke
Michael
David C
Syesha
Carly

Which would indicate the bottom three would be David C, Syesha and Carly, with Carly going home . I hope not.

Nothing too spoilery there I don't think, I watch at UK pace myself anyway, but I know Dial Idol can be quite accurate so I don't want to ruin anyone's enjoyment!

Eh...was ok for me overall..

Michael - Was good...but expected him to be better. I do agree...he needs to be more bluesy and less rocky

Syesha - She's got to do a better job of song selection...songs that aren't so attached to certain singers

Jason - Loved it! Excellent job covering Over The Rainbow!!!!

Kristi - Good (for her)

David C - Yuck. Didn't like it at all!

Carly - Bad song selection but sang it well

David A - Great! Love the lil fella!

Brooke - Expected more from her...came off as depressing

Best of the night: David A and Jason

Yeh, it will be shown on Friday. This Friday on ITV2 will be like the old times. 3 hours of American Idol in a row. Note, there is still an hour show on Thursday as well.

Fair enough but I don't even know the song and I don't think many non-Aerosmith fans outside the US know it.

I agree. He is at his best when he is singing the more soulful, bluesy numbers. They are scuppering his chances by trying to turn him into a rocker in the same way that they (deliberately) did with Ben Mills in XF.

general feeling seems to be Carly or Syesha will be going home, neither were great but i prefer Syesha, Carly seems to have resorted to wearing Simon Cowell high waisted trousers to get a compliment from him this week and what the hell was Syesha doing sat staring at herself in a little mirror in her vt clip?

Michael: Song was too big for him yet again - really wish he'd stop trying to sing big rock songs which are out of his range - and found the whole thing a tad self-indulgent.

Syesha: Took over from Kristy in boring me to tears this week. Was okay-ish but she definitely missed notes in places and to borrow one of Simon's phrases it was all a bit 'musical wallpaper'. Also hated her mouthing back to Randy. People have been giving Brooke stick for it but I thought Syesha was just plain rude to Randy this week.

Jason: Really really liked him this week. Very pleased he's back on form.

Kristy: Can't believe I'm going to say this but I thought she was actually pretty good this week. In fact was my second fave behind Jason! I really hope she stays in this week.

David C: Definitely not his best week. Not a great song choice and his voice seemed all over the place. In fact, it wasn't just his voice. He seemed really off-kilter all round and looked like he was about to burst into tears at one point when the judges were talking. Have a feeling something behind the scenes may have thrown him off this week. His whole demeanour just seemed odd.

Carly: Like Michael, I really wish she'd stop picking songs that are far too big for her! (In fact, I wish they'd all just stop singing Queen songs - with the exception of Constantine, no-one's done them justice with a final 12 performance) Agreed with Simon's comment about the angry performance too. And the air of desperation is back too. Really not good.

David A: Contra to everyone elses opinion, it seems, I really didn't like this! He sang it well enough - in tune, pleasant voice etc. I just really resent that he managed to turn a great belting anthem into a syrup-y love ballad. Urgh.

Brooke - She's still not back on top form but it was actually my third fave of the night (helped by the fact that some of the others were so bad!) It didn't rock the world and wasn't a show-stopping number, but listening to it made me smile.

Best - Jason, followed by Kristy, then Brooke.

Worst - Carly, followed by Syesha, then David C & Michael tied.

Think Carly may go home but rather hope it's Syesha.

Jason really was superb this week. I adore that version of the song and he did the best rendition of it I've ever heard!

Syesha was foolish in her song choice. And to argue back with Randy was even more so....

Idol Gives Back was pretty good!

2 songs from the Idol contestants

Fergie with John Legend on piano...then Heart comes out singing Barracuda and Fergie joins them. VERY good!

I also loved Annie Lennox...but she can do no wrong in my world.

Had hoped Daughtry would perform on stage...and did we really need 2 performances from Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana!?!?

Overall a great show and hope they raised a lot of money!

Ok - my god wasn't Heart and Fergie just amazing

10-04-2008
Yes, they were! Didn't know Fergie had it in her (and the two flips!?!)

Terri Hatcher was ok...but looked like she was lip-synching...the band is made up of other TV stars...from House, Heroes and others...

Carrie's solo performance was very good, too

Michael---This is one of the most difficult classic rock songs to sing. He lacks the range and power and control required to do this song justice. Michael should never have attempted it. He sounded very good through the first half of the song, although it sounded like a Steve Tyler impersonation. The second half was horrible. He was off key, pitchy, and made a mess of alternately screaming and whooping the high notes, not to mention completely losing the timing and control. Granted, it is a very difficult song, even for singers who have the range for it. Performance-wise, he was good, but imitative.

Syesha--Vocally, this was absolutely beautiful and nearly perfect, although she was slightly straining and a little pitchy on a few notes during the big buildup at the end. My problem with it is that her voice is almost too beautiful for this song. This song requires an edge and a kind of been-through-hell-but-still-have-hope kind of attitude that made it perfect for Fantasia, who defined the song. Still an excellent performance, and she had a risk in taking on a song that is so identified as a former Idol winner's song.I just hope we get to see more of her personality next week, if she is still there.

Jason---The judges loved it. I thought it was pretty good, and definitely better than last week. He has a marketable style, and chose an interesting arangement of the song. He also gave credit to the original artist who came up with the arangement, so points for that. Good performance, okay vocal. Potential to do better, I think.

Kristy---this is one of the few country songs I really like.....unfortunately, Kristy's voice , although reasonably clear and in tune within her very limited range, is weak, nasal, and brittle. She sounds borderline screechy/squeaky and strained when she tries to belt, as though her voice is about to crack. It isn't that challenging or big of a song , yet she had to make a big effort to (barely) manage it.This is the best she has sounded, but her best just isn't good enough to compete with the others left this season. She did an okay job performance wise this time. For once, she was not the worst of the night. Overall, it was good.(for her)

David C---This was not good.(for him)..Pitchy more often than usual, and , although none of the vocal was really bad, it just was half good/half shouting, and put together in a mismatched-sounding way. This really did sound like a reasonably good karaoke performance. Performance wise, it was also kind of karaoke and cheesy, and the 'give back' at the end came off as not really fitting, but he seems like he tries hard and is a decent person, so he probably meant well.

Carly---not nearly as difficult a song as Dream On, but nonetheless a very challenging song to do justice to. Other than being unable to hold on to a few of the major notes and cutting them short just a little, she nailed it. The judges are full of poo, she did not over-sing it or lose control at all. (fun fact--The judges go mostly by what they hear at the previous rehearsal and what they are told to say, so it isn't like what they say on the night means much anyway. ) This one is meant to be a bit over the top. She pushed her voice just enough to get the right vibe without going shouty, then eased off for great dynamics. The song suited her.She sang it right and sang it well. It is an angry/sad song, and she performed it right. She looked great, too.

David A----reasonably good vocal on a moderately easy to sing song choice. Nothing wrong with this performance, technically, and the way it is aranged, it could almost fool listeners into thinking he has some power to his voice if they don't listen too closely...Reasonably good, but this performane, vocal, and song didn't hold my attention. He is consistennt, but also consistently unexceptional.

Brooke---this was the first time I really wasn't drawn in at all by her performance. She sounded like she was having some problems. Vocally, she was only slightly better than Kristy this week, wich isn't good.(for her)....This was my least favorite performance by Brooke.
Vocally okay, performance wise okay, but not nearly her usual standard. Others are getting better while she is idling.

Overall, Carly had the best vocal of the night, although anyone who hasn't either sung or at least heard several different people sing the song she performed (not to mention the original) may not apreciate how well she did. Also, it was not a good choice for a show like this , so may work against her. Still, vocally impressive in an odd way. Syesha was close behind. She delivers the most consistent technically good vocals .She performed well, but she does need to put more into performance and choose songs that suit who she is.Even though he bored me, David A was third best this week. Jason's performance was cool enough in a unique(for Idol) way.Everyone else had a bad week.(except Kristy, but her best is still not that good)

Worst of the night was definitely Michael's butchering the end of Dream On.
Everyone else just did okay.

I think this is going to one of the rare occasions when DI is way off the mark and Michael is going to be out.

Michael Johns out!

Shocked!

Bottom 3 were Syesha, Carly and Michael.

I think it's a case of complacency from his fans...because we all know he's way more talented that Kristy.
