I currently have a BT landline, and pay sky a fiver to have free evening and daytime calls.

I ran out of minutes on my mobile, and wanted to ring my misses on her mobile. So I found an operator that would charge me 5p a minute (05pence).

I dialled my misses..wanting to surprise her, however my number came up on her mobile...not much of a surprise.

I dialled 1280 to get of the sky network and onto BTs, then I dialled 141 followed by the operator access number, and then finally the mobile number.

Anyway I can withhold my number?

Also when I get onto the BT network, I usually dial 141, when phoning credit card companies, utility services, banks etc. Does this mean I am wasting my time, and my number is not withheld?

Dial 141 first, then 1280, then the target number.

Personally, I'd use 18185 instead for calls to UK mobiles - 5p connection + 6p/minute during the week.
