Hi guys,

Can any of you tell me who makes Wharfedale TV's. I know this sounds like a daft question. I understand that Funai manufacture Durbrand TV's and that there are many other relationships like this.

I only ask because I had a look on Wharfedale's site and there does not appear to be any reference to the fact that they have TV's with their brand on them.

Any info welcomed.

Thanks

Given Wharfedale's excellent reputation in Hi Fi speaker manufacturing it is hardly surprising that they are not trumpeting their name being used on budget Argos TVs on their website

As a resident of Wharfedale I feel duty bound to comment!

The Wharfedale of old (of loudspeaker fame) are sadly no more. Whilst there are still Wharfedale branded loudspeakers, that "remnant" of the company is owned by IAG who also own Quad and other audio brands and are based in Huntingdon.

The brand name was sold/licensed to Argos who stick it on own their own brand products made by any one of a number of commodity electronics manufacturers such as Vestel or Beko.

The current "Wharfedale" branded consumer electronics products therefore do not have any connection to the legacy of excellent British electronic engineering that was Wharfedale of Wharfedale!! {Yet seek to trade on that famous and well respected name}

I would agree with all of that, apart from the name being licensed to Argos? - unless it's fairly recently?.

I don't know who was actually running 'Wharfdale', but at one time they were exclusive to Euronics - a deal done by Euronics, much to the horror of the dealers!.

I'm still using my Wharfdale Dovedale Hi Fi Speakers I also own and use a pair of Celestion Ditton 44 Hi Fi speakers and a pair of Goodmans speakers (when Goodmans manufactured Hi Fi equipment and not a recycled name) that I use with my TV to give a truly great sound.....these are still going strong being 30 years plus in age and plenty of use.......Proper Hi Fi speakers and British manufacture!

Not disagreeing with what you say but Wharfedale whilst not being the company they once were still make respected loudspeakers under the IAG umbrella whilst the TVs marketed by Argos do not have a similar status

The televisions are mostly if not entirely made by Vestel in Turkey. One of the photos on the Argos website even has Vestel on the TV.
