I have wanted David Cook to win from the start. He has a maturity about his voice and singing style. I would definately buy an album of his. I think those two are the best and I hope they are the finalists.

Well it looks like it will be those two. David A is like a professional talent show entrant in terms of his personality and there's not much to him except saccharine. His voice is average, I think, and once he grows up I can't see him having much appeal. David Cook is the sort of person I would prefer to win this sort of show - much more original and thoughtful and not out of the mould of TV land.

David Cook - I think his voice is beautiful and he's got great charisma on stage, with or without his guitar (yes Simon, I'm looking at you), plus, looking at other forums he's got much more potential for an international career then David A.

I've nothing against David A, and have liked some of his performances, but he's nothing that special, at the moment, maybe in a few years when he's matured, but right now he's, extremely cute and sweet, but not that great a singer and lacks presence on stage.

David Cook by a mile. Personally, I always pick the more interesting, alternative contestant over the cute safe option, that's just my taste. But this time I think it's DC who has the better voice, Archuletta for me is a bit nasal and his breathing is odd.

I think David Cook could have a career (if he is given some artistic freedom and isn't forced to do an album of covers), whereas I can't see Archuletta doing anything but an album of covers. DC could turn out to be a respected artist, in the same way that Kelly Clarkson is. Whereas I see Archuletta going down the Taylor Hicks route.

I agree with Krycek that DC could have an international career. I've never bought a single/album from a talent show contestant, but if DC brought out something good, I might. Hell, I think I might even buy an album of his covers. I could imagine him having success in the UK.

When is the final by the way? I don't want to google it as I'll find out who went this week.

David Cook, simply because I'd buy his album tomorrow. David A isn't a bad singer but I wouldn't want an album of his music.

Agreed. I would buy a David Cook album in a heartbeat, having had his first album (and other pre-AI projects) in my car for the past month and loving his talent, creativity, and gorgeous (that's not quite the word I'm looking for but one that applies nonetheless) voice. So it's safely stated: I am a huge David Cook fan.

However: I don't want him to win American Idol.

So that means David A will probably win. He is the cookie-cutter (excuse the pun - I'm a 'Cookie' myself) Idol winner and things like this don't change overnight - he is easily marketable to teenage girls and the older generation smitten with his syrupy vocals (I happen to agree that his breathing is awkward, his lip-smacking is actually quite amusing and his pacing/rhythm is off...he's not bad, just not that good...pretty much a Gareth Gates without the speech impediment...his 'father impediment' seems to be attracting the same sort of votes however...), who will buy his CDs for their cars/dinner parties/sleepovers/karaoke nights/wedding dances, his posters for their bedroom walls, etc etc, whereas David Cook's fanbase (when it comes to selling records) mercifully, is not so broad. So the producers probably want David A to win in the case of a David/David final (this is not me joining in on the "it's all rigged" debate - personally I don't care too much either way to get involved in that...it's a TV show first and foremost after all...and I doubt such a mass concealment could gone on undetected - despite phone votes being free in America).

Blah, blah, blah. My main reason for not wanting David Cook to win is for his own good. The rumour is (if he wins) he's contractually obliged to do an album of AI/19 management/BMG-approved covers...and then they will give him clear-run to do whatever he likes...I cannot be partie to such a naive view of things...if a cover album sells well, they won't want him to stray too far from that for a second album (more importantly, won't want him to spend the best part of a year in obscurity putting together an album himself - "Hello, Perez Hilton? Please follow David around and talk about him as much as possible to keep him in the public eye and perpetuate this nonsense celebrity-obsession we all indulge...moolah?? You got it!" - as for the rumour that he already had a second album done-and-dusted and ready -to-go just before Idol: forget it, they wouldn't let that see the light of day...not in it's current form at least...) so will sort something for a quickie release/turnover...but then if the cover album doesn't sell well, he may well be dropped and have to carry the stigma of not only being a failed-Idol, but being moulded to an uncomfortable degree. I just don't want this experience to alter David's authenticity in any way...any more than it has already...

I know there is a big movement out there that worries people won't vote for David in the final because they think the same way as me...and that "of course David wants to win, that's what he's there for and he won't compromise his integrity"...but it's just not that simple...retaining "control" will be difficult...and the real reason he's there has got to be exposure surely...so getting into the final will accomplish everything he wanted and more...

Although having written all that crap, I realise it's a good thing I'm not in music management...all my acts would probably be stuck doing the local bar scene for eternity...or at least until their frustration forced them to disband...

I would vote for David Cook as he has shown intelligence in finding interesting versions of the songs he has performed and he is a great performer.


David A has a great voice but I find him a bit sombre and weird (Christiany in an American way which you don't see much of in the UK)

Hmm, a very interesting and thought provoking post there. Maybe coming second would be better for David C - all the exposure but none of the horrible covers album. I still don't really want to see David A win though. I might start supporting Kristy . Seriously. I think now I'd like to see her win.

David A is a good singer but is a bit too young and need to learn to control his voice and not be so breathy

david cook, he was one of the standouts from the start. damm i knew i should of put a bet on him when the odds were good. Although i think david A may just nab it as he does have the teeny bopper vote in the uS. But david cook would make the better recording artist and would be more successful. Not sure what kind of music david A would do, he would probably end up doing pop but hes got more of a soul voice.

To add though as some have already mentioned, it would better if he came second so he wasnt tied in to an album of covers.

However, jordin got an album of original material after she won didnt she?? so surely they have changed that like they have now in the UK?

I'm pretty sure it will be a David v David final and really don't care much one way or the other which of the two takes the prize. I doubt I'd buy CD released by either of them.

Both terrific singers, both interesting people, but neither is the kind of artist I'd pay cash to hear.

That said, I think Cook has the more commercial sound, so he probably should win. For all his talent David A might be a little too much of a goody-goody to sell far beyond a pre-teen girl fan base.

I guess we'll see.
