I'm glad I own an old plasma

I own a Hitachi 42 " plasma model 42PD7500 and I was wondering where it was made ( I bought it just over 2 years ago and paid £2000 for it ) .I know in these forums Hitachi's tend to be written off as crap but I am delighted with it and touch wood it is still going strong and has a great picture and sound through detachable speakers and a classy cabinet of glass and aluminium .In my humble opinion It really does still blow anything I see in the shops these days in terms of design as all the TV's these days look like giant PC screens surrounded by soulless glossy black plastic .Even the new generation of Hitachi's look terrible and look the same as all the rest in fact if you took the badges you can't tell most of them apart ,does anyone else agree/ disagree ? I dread the day when I have to buy a new plasma for my lounge when the Hitachi finally dies. I know the price of plasmas and lcd's has plunged well below the £1000 mark but you can see why in terms of the cheap cabinets .Finally out of curiosity does anyone know where the my generation of Hitachi was built and where the latest models are built (are all of them now vestel's including the high end models ? )

All I know is that Hitachi/Fujitsu manufactured plasma panels, your's might be one of them?, built by Hitachi using an Hitachi/Fujitsu PDP.

We stopped selling Hitachi donkeys years back, when they started selling more and more cheap bought-in gear.

Thanks Nigel ,here's hoping mine is hopefully not a donkey as it enters it's 3rd year of service.I notice that on some panasonic boxes recently seen in Currys they have made in Slovakia/Czech republic can't quite remember ...are these of good quality/reliability ? Does anything originate from Japanese plants anymore ? ...I must stress i'm not suggesting that our easter european neighbours make bad telly's i'm just curious.

ps I own a vestel (Finlux) lcd as a 2nd set and so far so good. Thanks as always for your advice .

Were the Panasonics previously assembled in Japan?, I wouldn't have thought so?. Sony LCD's are mostly assembled in Spain (Barcelona), but some are in Eastern Europe. A lot of is to do with EU quotas and regulations.

But bear in mind all these sites usually assemble only, they don't actually manufacture the boards or LCD panels.

We sold Finlux and Toshiba portables at Christmas, the Toshiba's quickly sold at even though they were £40 more expensive - yet the sets are EXACTLY the same.
