Amplifier kit

Hi all,

I was just wondering about an amplifier and its connections. Well first off I'm thinking of getting this and I know its not the greatest but it suits our needs and price range.

My question is, I have an xbox 360, dvd player with HDMI/Componet & a sky + box. I was wondering if I could connect all of these various machines, using various cables (HDMI, component - for video & optical for sound etc...) and then just use a single HDMI connecting to an input in my TV from the output on the AV reciever, and be able to make use of all of my machines through this one cable? or will I need numeous cable to connect all these to my TV?

I hope that makes sense

Thanks,

Tim

PS - I know its a stupid question, but I rather be stupid for 10 minutes than stupid for the rest of my life

Hi Tim, hows it going?

You can do exactly what you have stated there with regards to connections and basically use the amp as a video/sound driver for each device.

You only need 1 hdmi from the amp to the tv but you will need the amp on all the time to get sound whilst watching anything, except for the tuner on the tv.

As you said, use as many hdmi/component connections as possible for video and optical for audio.

Looks like a good system, your the 2nd person who's asked about one of them.

weather doesnt seem to want to make its mind up here! as usual!

Go for it with the amp and let us know the results, i'd be interested to see how it performs.

Did you go to Richer sounds in town or are you still shopping around?

I went to town, couldn't find richer ounds, but went to maplins and petes, and they were very expensive, so I decided the above was the best.

Cheers,

Tim

Hi,

Just one more question, If I were to buy the above amp. Could I connect my Sky + box via the red/white/yellow cable? as obviously the sky + does not have a HDMI connection, and the above amp doesnt have a scart. Or is there any other way I could connect it?

Or better yet could I use a Scart to component cable - http://cgi.ebay.ie/2M-RGB-component-...QQcmdZViewItem and connect the scart into the Sky box and then the component cables into the amp, and then use the HDMI to the tv to transmit the video, and use an optical for sound? could that work?

cheers,

Tim

The red/white/yellow phonos will only give you composite video and stereo sound (DPL), no DD5.1.

You would be much better off connecting the Sky+ box directly to the TV via scart (RGB), then using the optical out on the Sky+ to the amp for the audio, this will give you DD5.1 when available.

Personally I wouldn't bother, but I doubt this receiver will feature video conversion anyway so it wouldn't work, it looks like the receiver just features switching for component and HDMI.

Cheers tommy, will just plug into tv

Just wondering, it has two HDMI inputs and one output, and a few component inputs and one output, if I were to say connect my xbox 360 to the component input, could it output to the tv using the HDMI output? or would I have to use the component output?

Cheers,

Tim

Pretty sure the amp is only capable of video switching not video conversion, therefore what ever connection goes in, the same must come out.

For the XBox it will be component into the amp then component out of the amp to TV.

Personally I find there's no need to use a receiver as a switchbox unless you are struggling with a shortage of connections on the TV, I much prefer to connect directly to source when I can.

If you have component input(s) that you can use on the TV then I would recommend using them, then connect the Xbox to the receiver via optical for DD5.1 audio etc.

OK grand! Sorry another stupid question Just looked at my xbox, it doesn't have an optical output/input, so how would I make the most of the DD5.1 audio on it? would I need to buy some sort of expansion cable for it?

Thanks Mate

Sorry, not familiar with the Xbox, assumed it had an optical output.

Has it got audio outputs, red and white connections?

If so, a pair of phonos connecting the Xbox to the receiver would be the best on offer, at least this way you will be able to listen in DPL surround.
