I'm a bit clueless when it comes to dance music but I know the genre I like...

I like house with female vocals and bit more upbeat. I'm not really into hard house. I don't mind trance like Northern Exposure albums (which I think are amazing). I'm looking for the sort of stuff you listen to before you go out- you know- to get you in the mood...

However, I'm not really caught up on the latest dance music and I don't really know who's who - can anyone recommend any good albums/mixes or artists?

Can't really answer your question as I'm not up-to-date on current dance music (although the stuff that drips into the charts seems pretty poor), but I have to share your love for Northern Exposure! Fabulous stuff.

Depemds on which era of 'big girlie vocals for big girlie dance floors' you like.

David Morales remixes of Mariah Careys tracks , Honey , & Dreamlover are superb , Electribe 101 feat Billy Ray Martin 'Talking With Myself' Frankie Knuckles mix is very good. A good collection to get hold of on CD is 'The Hacienda' a mix cd by Grame Park issued in 1996. There is a good 'Mastercuts' classic house CD that features CE CE Rogers 'Someday' , Sterling Voids 'Its Alright' & Ralphi Rosarios 'You Used to Hold Me' All very expensive on vinyl. You could try Inner Citys 'Pennies From Heaven' , Carolyn Harding 'Movin On' & of course Alison Limericks 'Where Love Lives' Morales/Knuckles mix. Robert Owens 'I'll Be Your Friend' , 'Visons' & 'High Hopes' are also good tracks to start a night. Tracks by Marshall Jefferson are also worth getting hold of. Chicago's Trax records being the home of many a good early house tune.

Or if your into more upto date sounds then Hed Kandis cd compilations are a good way to strart off & have tracks to suit most tastes & are good value for the money & save on the racks needed for umpteen 12" 's

Inner City would be ideal or anything produced by Marshall Jefferson with the likes of Kym Mazelle on vocals.
