haha -over 300 posts on a thread that was started with the intention of being spiteful and insulting. Many of the girls still in the competition haven't had as many positive comments.

I agree that some of the others have had tuning issues that weren't picked up on (Sam and Niamh spring all too readily to mind). But with Fran, it was the regularity with which she went out of tune. She didn't once get through a whole performance perfectly in key. I'm perfectly willing to believe that she just had a harder time adjusting to singing in the studio than some of the others, apparently she was amazing in Rent. But from the point of view of the audience at home, it didn't look good.
I may be wrong - but it's possible that the pressure of being labelled the pro got to Fran and as a consequence nerves got the better of her. We'll probably never know - but from the 12 finalists she is the only one who would influence my decision to see Oliver. By that I mean I wouldn't stay away if one of the others plays Nancy - but nor would I regard the show as a 'must see.' |

How many times have any of us known we could do something but as soon as someone important is watching and it happens to go wrong the next time you go to do it all thats on your mind is there going to be watching for ..... That puts on more pressure and you end up doing it wrong again. As for her performance in rent unfortunately I never got to see the show but from the youtube clips I've heard and the rent myspace music clips she sounds brilliant and it makes me even more annoyed that I never got a chance to go and see it. |

But this whole process has raised her profile and I think that ultimately, she'll be glad she did it. I hope so. |

Indeed , but the others got more votes.
and both Amy and Ashley got less votes than Fran - and maybe she got more than others on the weeks she automatically went through.

But if ALW had saved her the second time, then she probably would have a reprieve from the public for the next one, two shoes. This would mean the chance of two of his favorites being in the bottom 2 highly likely.
Let's say he voted Ashely off. Then Fran would probalby avoid the bottom 2 for the next two weeks as the public thinks that ALW sees something in Fran. (This is what happened the first time Fran was in the bottom two) So the following two weeks there is a possibility of getting something like Niahm and Jessie/Samanth (or whoever ALW favors). Then he has a very difficult choice. If he has say 4-5 favorites he wants these 4-5 to last as long as they can so they have the most television exposure. If one of his favorites leaves early then they don't get exposure which hurts them later when they try to put her as understudy or on the travelling Oliver show. He really had to get rid of Fran when he had the chance, unfortunatley for him it came at the same time as Ashleygate. The nature of ALW's comments to Fran during the live shows were more than enough to show that she was not one of his 'favourites' for the role. I think he did appreciate that she's a good actress (in fact towards the end he only ever referred to her as an actress, not a singer/performer - a warning bell in itself) I think his concern was partly based on her inconsistency during her first four solo performances, but also he is clearly keen on a 'new', 'raw' and 're-defined' Nancy, and he seemed to regard Fran as almost too well trained and 'old-fashioned' (his words in her final week). I'm sure he was also aware though that with her training and experience (and a couple more weeks reprieve to get a handle on her nerves etc) she could well have sorted the pitching issues and kicked into top gear - potentially challenging his 'chosen ones'. Looking back, it might even have been touch and go that she was saved in week one - but maybe ALW was still unsure at that point as to how his early favourites would perform, and it would have been too risky to lose a professional at that stage. Part of the reason I was worried about her ending up in the bottom 2 as the weeks went on was because ALW really didn't seem to be 'on-side'. I think, sadly, you're right that he would have saved any of the others over Ashley. I don't believe he saved Ashley out of guilt for what he said to her. He took his chance to 'get rid' of Fran while he could, because of her potential challenge. In fact, I think he would probably have quite happily lost both of them in a double eviction. After last weekend though, I bet he's wondering whether a saved Fran would have been a much better option than a saved Ashley

I think far too much is been read into this.
Fran didn't sing in tune throughout any of her songs (including her exit) and there is no doubt that she was taking a risk entering a competition like this at this stage in her career, plus it didn't help she was ill some of the time. I think it is fair to say that rightly or wrongly, ALW and the panel will probably have had high expectations of Fran given her previous roles and she just didn't deliver for them or the public. I liked Fran a lot as she could clearly act and sing. I was wishing for her to do well each time she performed, only to find myself wincing when she hit a bum note. Others also have had their problems that the panel have commented on and I think Fran is a lot better than some of the finalists left, but I don't think she was ever a contender given how she actually performed. I think she'll bounce back - I hope she'll bounce back. |

Im so glad Fran is auditioning again, she will soon get that confidence back. Just thought I'd post a link to a really nice interview with Sam in which she says lots of lovely things about Fran, and how the 'professional' tag impacted on her. It's obvious why these two became so close, they both seem genuinely nice and grounded. http://www.facebook.com/share_redire...id=29020821072 The link may not work if you're not on Facebook, and she starts talking about Fran about halfway through. |

Thanks so much for posting that link. Great that she seems to be sounding positive. I'm sure she will be back on the West End soon, she maybe can't announce anything until after the Nancy show has finished.

How nice was that, all bar the DJ's comment at the beginning anyway
![]() And Ormster, glad you liked it too. It was also clear from Fran's (now awol) exit interview that they got on especially well, and she's made no secret of saying that she'd like Sam or Sarah to win

Maybe he was just towing the media line and getting a dig in like most of the media were whilst she was in the competition - pretty much everywhere except wales.......
Glad to see Sam stuck up for her but to be honest I think most of them would have done as they all really did seem quite gutted to lose her I think there were more tears that week than there had been any other week. Question for you does anyone else think it's strange that this year we don't get to see the judges reactions to the girls going out as in the last two years they have always panned over to the Judges at least once whilst the exit song is going on to gage there reaction. |

), but from what she and Sam have said there was a group of four - Fran, Sam, Niamh and Sarah who all get on particularly well, which is nice to hear.As for the judges, yes to be honest I had no clue that JB was annoyed about the Fran decision until the clip they showed of him talking to Ashley last week. Although, it is good that the departing Nancy gets all the attention for the 'farewell' song. |

I too noticed how upset the other girls were when Fran left - I think they are very supportive of each other and probably felt that Fran was being put under very unfair pressure with the pro tag. Niamh was particularly upset. |

I think was really sweet how some of the girls were really upset when she left and by the way BuddyBontheNet, frans' exit song wasn't out of tune nor was the sing off songs she did, i would imagine most of the contestants have been out of tune on at least one note on every song. It's a shame Fran got so nervous which isn't suprising really but thats why she struggled so much with her pitching. also she had some really bad song choices, the only good song she got to sing was Sombody To Love and that was sang perfectly. hopefully she will be in something soon.

I'm sorry, but if you listen to the very last part of her ALAHNM song (i.e. the big moment) she cracks - but on another post I did say it was understandable. I have also said that others also had pitching problems. As I said I like Fran a lot, but I'm not going to pretend her performances were perfect just to please other posters on this board.

I certainly didn't notice it the last few times I listened, but that's not to say she didn't miss a note.

I love Fran's law breaker myself goes to prove at least one of our girls has had to do it rough at times, and it shows her honesty.... it's as if she thought I'll tell you what I've had to stoop to before for my dreams unlike all the others which are pretty run of the mill ohhhh I've drunk under age I think most people have done that.
Yes I loved that one too! Her interview was the most revealing and funny ![]() I can't beleive how short Sarah must be...I was quite literally taller than that aged 10. |
