I think you hit the nail on the head. I adore Sarah, and she was by far and away my favourite IDA contestant, but I'm not sure I'd call her my favourite "Nancy". I do believe she'd have nailed the role (and I'm
still bitter that she left when she did

), but there are other things out there that are more suited to her. Fran, on the other hand, was perfect for the role of Nancy, for all the reasons you've mentioned. I definately think the panel being over-critical of her damaged her confidence to the extent she was never able to show her true potential.
1.Amazing actress.
2.Beautiful tone to her voice.
3.Looks the part (moreso than any of the finalists, at least)
4.Has already proven she has the ability to captivate audiences (RENT reviews, anyone? I don't think I've read a single one that doesn't single her out as the best performer!)
Aaah,*franlove*
It's just a shame that so many people (myself included, to an extent) didn't realise this until she left the competition. If I were her, I'd be waiting for an oportunity to stick my fingers up to ALW... but I think Fran has a lot more dignity than I do!
I think she was one of the most versatile Nancies too. She'll go on to bigger and better things.
