Got a cheap Techinka 1031 DVD player from Tesco a couple of months back, all was fine until yesterday when it started saying "WRONG DISC" whenever I tried to play one.

We only have half a dozen Childrens DVD's we put on for my niece when she comes to visit, otherwise its rarely used. Any ideas what could have gone wrong, or do I need to make a trip to Tesco?

Have you tried cleaning the lens? With young nieces have you checked for jam sandwiches or other obstructions in there?

Just take it back to Tesco's (presumably you kept your receipt?), and they will just give you a new one - doesn't matter if it's full of jam sandwiches or not.

Incidently, an interesting story.

Our satellite installer went to visit a relative in Nottingham, and she asked if he would look at her fairly new vacuum cleaner (Electrolux) which she had bought from Tesco's - as it wasn't picking up. He looked at it, and the belt was broken, so he went to where she bought it to buy a new belt - to be told they don't stock the belts, and he needed to find an independent retailer who sold them. However, he couldn't find one anywhere, so he took the entire cleaner back to Tesco's and said it wasn't working, who replaced it with a more expensive model for him!.

Is that stupid or what?.
