With what Noel Gallager throwing his 2 cents in (or should that be 50cents in), about this years glastonbury festival, and wether Jay-Z is right for it or not.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/newsbeat/hi/mu...00/7346631.stm

What does everyone else think?

Personally I think it would be a lot better if there was a bigger name headlining to draw people in. Kings of Leon and The Verve arn't that much of a draw or well known.

A bigger headline act on another day would have taken the focus off Jay-Z as being the main act.

Also the whole hip-hop lifestyle doesn't really fit with the hippies and mud of somerset. I wonder if he'll be sippin on zider rather than kyrstal?

(I know this might be better in the music section, but its topical and mainstream)

No. Glasto isn't my cup of tea anyway.

Anyone fancy making a killing in the summer get down to Glastonbury and start selling bottles of stale piss at £1 a go.

It's a marketing cock-up of monstrous proportions - the organisers have spent years building up one type of audience, and then they do an about turn with a completely different kind of act.

Add to that the fact that they introduced their complicated ID scheme last year, which pushed up the average age of attenders still further, and you have their second error. What's the point in encouraging the older demographic and then inviting a headline act who appeals to a younger audience?

Madness! And if I were Jay Z, I'd pull out and let them know exactly how annoyed I was at all the insulting bad publicity.

Don't worry, I'm sure by the time he's been hit with his 100th bottle of hot, cloudy and steaming urine he'll clear off the stage, battling through the toilet rolls on the way.

Ah... I'm suddenly reminded of Daphne & Celeste at Reading Festival about 8 years ago... if I remember correctly, amongst the many missiles thrown onto the stage, the highlight was a man in a wheelchair?!!!

I don't think the KOL are well known. I don't know any of their songs (and I'm only 27). As for the Verve, well great 10years ago with Urban Hymns, but only just reformed....

Again, the KOL would be good at glasto, but with a bigger band/act as well.

jay-z is a international superstar and glastonbury festival is supposed to be about diversity so maybe it is because of the colour of his skin because no one complained too much when kylie was going to be there and her ott shows dont embrace the hippy culture either.

You're just not down with the kids these days

All their albums have gone Top 3, and at least one of them went to number one, so they must be pretty well known.

I'd agree they're not necessarily headline material, however.

I honestly think it's more to do with age than race.

Cheers, I'll look that up. My favourite 'moment' is another from Reading, when former Dexy's Midnight Runners frontman Kevin Rowlands was the special guest. He turned up on stage in stockings and suspenders, turned on a tape player and sang along, out of time and out of tune, to some 60's soul songs, whilst two beauties, dressed only in their undies, licked his body. He got upset with the boos and the bottles, told us to f**k off, and stormed off-stage. Tough act to follow!!!

you could be right right but most veteran glastonbury goers seem to pride themselves on their open mindedness and love of diversity. i think jay-z will be a success and convert any doubters who have an open mind because you dont become one of the biggest stars in the world by having a crap stage presence.

Because you don't know any songs doesn't make them not well known. I don't know any Sugababes songs but they're still well known.

Considering will young is playing glasto and T in the park this year! I think Jay-z is fine in comparison!

I was at T in the park when snoop and James Brown were playing, amongst the likes of Greenday, Foo fighters and the Killers - it was awesome, made the whole weekend a great mix up of styles. As long as they are not crap then who cares?

No. Please don't make this a racial issue.

It's purely because mainstream rap music isn't popular with the sort of people who attend Glastonbury.

Kyle is kitsch and kitsch is cool.

Plus it's difficult to sing along to a Jay-Z song.

I think a lot of Glastonbury goers go to relive their youth - hence the headline acts in recent years. I mean Paul McCartney ffs

Personally, I think Jay-Z would be fantastic, but he must be bloody pi**ed off at the negative publicity.

Maybe not as one of the main headliners.

The majority of green-wellied toff students who attend "Glasto" have no conception of what a "hard-knock life" is anyway.

It doesn't matter who's headlining the Pyramid to some extent, as there's always something going on. For example when Jay-Z's on, I'll probably be over at the Park stage watching CSS, although Massive Attack on the Other Stage is quite tempting. There's hundreds of things happening at any one time at the festival, so the presence of just one act shouldn't change that.

Having said that, they're three pretty poor headliners. And I quite like the Verve. But they're so absoutely not Sunday night Pyramid stage material. And KOL are much more of a Reading & Leeds or Isle of Wight type headliner.

What I don't like is this obsession Eavis is starting to get with bringing in "the kids" and trying to drive away the loyal regulars who have stuck through the problems the bad weather has brought (like last year's coach fiasco). I think that's a big reason for the low ticket sales, a lot of people are feeling like they're not wanted.

I'm quite stunned with the reaction to be honest. And yes I think race is a large part of it, judhing by the comments i've been reading on Facebook groups that have sprung up against the decision.

The truth is Glastonbury hasnt been a rock festival for ages. There were over 100 dance acts last year.

Jay-Z also has plenty of "rock" based songs.

He has an EP with Linkin Park.

He has collaborations with Lenny Kravitz, Rick Rubin and Chris Martin

He did a completely acoustic set with the Roots for MTV unplugged that remains to this day one of the best ever performances for the show.

Then there are folks who talk about bling bling this. Hoes that. While I don't condone that stuff, I hardly think the likes of Pete Doherty are better examples of fine behaviour. Or the Gallaghers own excesses in recent years with drugs, hotel rooms and the noses of photographers.

And I bet most of these stupid indies who are complaining about Hiphop and its "negative" lyrics will be the first in line to buy GTA in a couple of weeks.

The hypocrisy of this country disgusts me.
