I already have a 37' Samsung HD TV but it's not full HD.

Anyway, I'm getting rid of that and I have a few quid to spend on a full HD TV and I want to know what the absolute best Full HD TV on the market is

It can't be any bigger then 40' though.

There's no such thing as 'absolute best', only differing personal opinions and personal requirements.

Why do you feel you need 'full HD' anyway?.

Mainly gaming... and if I'm getting rid of the one I have I reckon I'd be aswell getting a True HD one.

I wouldnt bother wasting your money. The difference between a 720p/1080i and a 1080p tv when the size is under 40" in negligible.

Put the money you would use away for a year or so and wait for 1080p sets to fall in price and if you really feel the need to upgrade the prices for them will be alot more resonable

Nobody "needs" full HD. They WANT it.

The Panasonic looks good, but you really ought to see it in action before buying one. If you are happy with what you see, then go ahead. I would personally prefer three HDMI connections for my next TV (PS3, V+, Upscaling DVD player)and I see the Panny only has two.

Why though does anyone want a Full HD sub 40" when they already have a HD TV? If it was someone who still has a crt and they wanted to make sure they were future proofed for the next 5-10 years then fine but is it really worth the expense at this moment in time for a TV who's size simply doesnt allow you to really take advantage of the added quality.

Its just spending money for the sake of spending money, either wait a year or two when Full HD sets will be more common and the price point and features of the sets will be at a better level or go the full hog and buy a set that is big enough to make a real benefit of the upgrade

That Panasonic is dirt cheap though!

Its £700-1000 and really lacks HDMI ports, thats hardly dirt cheap, especially when you have a perfectly good HD TV that doesnt need replaced when your only looking to get a TV of the same size or 3 inches greater.

Its £700-1000 your punting on whats basically a first gen FullHD as well

So what you're saying is, there's no single HDTV that has been reviewed to be the best - and even if there was I shouldn't buy it?

The bottom line is, my mate's buying my TV off me - So I'm going to need a HD TV, so there's no point in me buying one if its not True HD.

How far do you sit from the TV? Would the extra 2" for the Panasonic TH42PZ85 really be vastly different to a 40". The PZ85 is a superb set and has the 3 HDMI's you are looking for. Its also has SD slot, 1,000,000:1 contrast, 24p, and thier new Intelligent Frame Creation with Motion Pro3. Have it on display at the moment next to the 46" and they are both fantastic. The 42" is in high st stores from £1299 or less.
Other than that you're into 40" LCD which you'll need to pay a hell of a lot more for to match the Panasonic's

If you really have to then from a price point the panny is probally a bargin, although I still believe that on the whole unless your getting to around the 50inch mark a Full HD isnt worth the extra cash that a standard 720p screen.

If you really do want a Full HD screen though more information on your requirements and budget would probally help people give you more advice

I have the Toshiba FX355DB 40" full HD tv and I am really happy with it, you can get for around £1000 now so have a look, it might be perfect for you.

Requirements:
True HD
I use Sky HD and a PS3, that is all, so 2 HDMI sockets
Dolby 5.1 Surround Sound
Size - no more than 40' (I sit about 3 meters away from the TV since its in my room, anything bigger will be really stupid)

Budget: Anything up to about £900 at a push, a big big push.

From the budget side, and the fact I only need 2 HDMI sockets, I thought the Panasonic one I mentioned would have done.


The one Skinj mentioned sounded excellent but it's too big and quite expensive..

i have the 2008 version of that tv, got it last week from Dixons.

i have to say its very good, image on SD stuff looks very good, sound is clear.

i was going to get the same one your after but i went for the 08 model.

The Pioneer Kuro is considered to be one of the best...but the smallest screen size is 42".....I would question getting a 1080p screen though.....the difference will be miniscule for gaming...

Essentially I need a TV, and for the type of money I have to spend there wouldn't be a point in getting a 1080i HD TV when I could just as easily get a 1080p full HD TV. That Panasonic one mentioned by the last poster sounds excellent does anyone have the model of that, or a link to a review?

Can't fault the Samsung LE40M86BD - and they're sub-£700 now. I've had mine since January, and it's everything that you could possibly want. Great for SD, Blu-Ray and PS3 fun

There probably is a point in getting a 720p/1080i one. As ive stated already the size of TV your considering is too small to notice a difference. If you took the money your going to spend on a budget 1080p model you could get a better speced 720p/1080i one.

You may very well find a better quality none full hd tv will actually leave you viewing a picture thats actually more pleasing than a Full HD one due to this

All of these TV's I can get within my budget so I really don't know - I need to make a choice by the end of this week lol.

I have the Sony KDL40W2000, and have a Sky hd box, Toshiba XE1, Sony ps3, a Panasonic EX77 upscaling recorder and a computer, all connected to one of the 2 hdmi inputs, (using a switch box), AND ALL set to output at 1080p - absolutely fabulous.
Most people can see the difference in resolution on a small computer screen when comparing 1920 x 1080 to 1080 x 720 . If you sit any closer than 10ft, you'll see a difference with a quality hd source on the tvs' you've short listed.
Incidently, the sd performance on the Sony is only average - the picture is far superior when viewing via the Panasonic's tuner. So if the main of your viewing is sd, I'd be tempted by the Panasonic range of full hd sets.

It'll mainly be PS3 and Sky HD (HD channels, I hate SD now lol) that I'll be using it for. I'll be pretty close to the TV I get, no further away than about 5 meters..

I looked at the spec on each one, and the new Samsung LE40A556P blows the rest away, with the LE40M86BD second, the Panasonic TX37LZD80 third, the Panasonic TX37LZD70 fourth, then the Sony, then the Toshiba.

For the price, I'm really considering getting the LE40M86BD.. but it's such a hard decision
