Hey guy's, I'm thinking of buying a 52 inch TV, but the stand we want says it only supports up to a 50 inch TV.

I know this is a bit of an open ended question, but would a TV which is a little wider than a stand, look a little silly? or would there be a risk of the stand collapsing? (a little unlikely because of two inches I guess)...

The stand we're looking at is: http://www.standanddeliver.com/acata...FQGm1AodCX_2-Q

Any advice or recommendations appreciated.

My instinct would be that it's probably fine. Remember that 50" is a diagonal screen size - depending on the casing of the TV a 50" could easily be equal in width to a 52". If you can get the exact width of the stand and your TV and compare that should give a good guidance, though a little 'overhang' isn't a disaster.

ps - love the name of that website you've linked to

How many plasma lcd owners have bought wooden stands that were not fit for the purpose ? the problem I had was that the sheer weight of my 42" plasma was causing a slight bow in the middle of the cabinet ..not much but just to annoy and spoil the line of vision .Finally shelled out a bit more for a more robust wood /glass metal combo that finally did the trick (plasma now sits on a thick slice of glass .Thankfully I got a refund on previous 2 stands..just something to be aware of when buying cheaper end chipboard veneered cabinets.I looked at the Alphason and it didn't look that sturdy .
