DVD for PC
bowler

For a couple of years I have been playing DVDs on my PC using a hardware card in my machine. RealMagic Hollywood Plus, I think its called. However, after recently upgrading my processor and adding a CDRW drive DVDs have not played.

I think the problem lies with the Card inside the machine, but now that I have a very fast machine, I've decided to take the hardware acrd out, freeing up a PCI slot, and using a software DVD player. What is the quality of the current software players and is there any in particular I should go for.

I have been using PowerDVD, which I have found to be great - as it will work with any DVD drive and graphic card (unlike a lot of other software programs, as they require a specific graphic card!)

More offical information about PowerDVD can be found here.

Enjoy.

Does anyone know of any alternatives to Power DVD? Thanks.

I read that the Hollywood decoders dont work with win 98 and beyond... I don't know from experience, but I recall the tech journolist Barry Fox complaining that his didn't work after upgrading to win 98 (or maybe winMe)

Power DVD seems to be considered one of the best and often given away free with all sorts of things. I got a copy free with my Hercules GF2 graphics card...
