So recently moved to Sky talk with line rental. I asked for caller display but sometimes the number doesn't come up. These are numbers that would come up before. Any ideas what might be going on or is this normal for Sky?

I've heard the same complaint before with Sky's line rental.

Out of interest, why on earth did you let them take your line rental? Surely is wasn't the 50p/month saving?

BTW, there have been some quite dramatic price rises from today.

well, it is a bit cheaper, free calls and free caller display -when it works! I was changing to Sky BB and wanted just the one bill for all three. I have no loyalty to BT and Talk Talk who I was with before.

AFAIK, the price rises will follow through with everyone.

I've never understood the 'one bill' thing - but each to their own.

I must say Heinz, for someone that posts so much on telecomms you seem to miss the fact that Sky Talk was just nominated number ONE in 7 out of 11 U-Switch catagories, and number 2 in the remaining 4. Furthermore BT was voted the bottom right across the board. Hence maybe the 50p savings on line rental isn't the only reason to switch!!

As for the Called Display not working, that's a feature on the line and its either on or off. it doesn't sometimes work and sometimes not. You should double check with Sky (dial 150 it's free) to make sure the feature is active on your line.

Regards

Sky Talk CPS is undoubtedly best for some. For example, my daughter has changed from (free) Primus Saver Option 2 CPS to (£5/month) Sky Talk Unlimited CPS because of her family's increased need to make weekday daytime UK 01/02/03 calls and her Mother having moved to Spain.

However, she still uses (this is why there is a need to leave your line rental with BT) the 1280 override prefix for 0844, 0871, 0872 and some 0845/0870 calls, 18185 for some 0845/0870 calls and for weekday calls to UK mobiles and 1899 for weekend calls to UK mobiles.

I prefer to make my own assessments rather than placing too much faith in recommendations made by sites which make their money from making such recommendations though.

No, nor bill. Crazy to worry about one bill.

Been said many a time. Keep line rental with BT, place most your calls elsewhere.

Yes, if you want Sky Talk, fine, but don't take their Line Rental.

BT have offered 'Free' Caller Display for a couple of years or so.

They often don't show all tariffs, can miss out some of the best deals.

No for both if you're on the free Sky Talk Freetime package but, if you're on the £5/month Sky Talk Unlimited package, yes for calls to Spanish landlines (but still not for calls to Spanish mobiles).

I have an aversion to 'pay in advance' providers and, generally, to gateway providers (which start charging halfway through dialling - when you've dialled the 11 digits of the gateway number and before you even start dialling the 'target' number) so I make all mine using 18185 @ 1p/minute and 8p/minute respectively. Of course, that option is only open to you if you use Sky Talk as your CPS calls provider (i.e. still pay line rental to BT). It is not open to you if you have handed over your line rental to Sky though.

See HERE for options for calling Spanish landlines and HERE for options for calling Spanish mobiles (not British mobiles roaming in Spain).
