toast done in the toaster, then put the cheese on and 20-30 seconds in the microwave. A bit soggy, but quick and easy. I sometimes put mustard on the bread after toasting though.

My all time favourite supper dish. I sometimes put worcester sauce on, before the cheese, and sometimes pickles. Has to be Lancashire or Cheshire cheese though - yummy.

Half toast one side of a thick piece of white bread under the grill. Turn it over and completely toast the other side, turn it back over to the half toasted side and pile mature Lancashire cheese on there. Toast the cheesy side till it's golden and bubbling, then serve with a massive dollop of picallili.

How do you make it so that the edges of the toast don't burn and you set the smoke detector off?

I toast one side of the bread under the grill, then turn over and on the untoasted side lay sliced tomatoes first and then sliced cheese (strong tasting cheese only), grill until cheese is melted and bubbling. Grate salt and pepper over the top. Serve with kettle crisps and a big glass of cold orange squash. Yum!!

I don't like anything added to my cheese on toast except salt and plenty of ground black pepper.
Always use extra mature cheddar. And I like mine with only one side toasted under the grill, cheese laid on untoasted side (a la PamelaL), and then I toast it till it is really brown and crispy. I love the black crusts as too! |

Not sure if this counts but I've taken to toasting wholemeal pitta breads then opening them and adding Red Leicester, the cheese slowly melts in the pitta pockets. I eat with salad cream (as a kind of brunch meal?)
Sometimes I'll add red onion and cherry tom's but I love it plain too
