what does everybody want to see the finalist sing this week for ALW Week

I'd like to see Kristy attempt Shakalaka Baby

My three favourite choices for Kristy (Maybe This Time, I Know Him So Well and Roxie) are all from non-ALW musicals. At the moment I've got her on Love Changes Everything, or maybe Another Suitcase In Another Hall.

Don't Cry For Me Argentina sounds about right for Carly as somone else suggested here.

For Jason I'm thinking No Matter What, and Memory for Syesha.

Any Dream Will Do for David A - I did have him on Love Changes Everything until I found out I Know Him So Well wasn't an ALW creation. It'll do him good to go more upbeat though.

Brooke - I Don't Know How To Love Him - although maybe Kristy could do this one instead. If I had to choose I'd let Kristy have the better song, and I love this one!

And for David Cook, seeing as they're rehearsing on the set of it, the title track from The Phantom Of The Opera. There's a rock version by Nightwish which I think he'd take inspiration from, but I reckon DC's version would be better - the Nightwish one seems a bit chaotic to me.

What do you think?

Please NOT a Joseph song for David A - it's too predictable and they are quite easy to sing (originally the show was written for schoolkids) and they wouldn't give him any chance to shine. Also despite his youth and looks he has a very mature tone to his voice that it would be good to hear him sing something more sophisticated.

Love Changes Everything IS an ALW song - it's from Aspects of Love (I know him so well is from Chess and not ALW). Not I don't think it's right for him (or anybody else in this competition for that matter) - it's a very big song with a huge range and that final note is a killer. Yes, you could rearrange it and avoid the Big note but it would be such a cop out.

My suggestions:-
Brooke - The Perfect Year from Sunset Boulevard
Syesha - I'd be Surprisingly Good For you from Evita
Carly - Take that Look off Your Face from Tell Me on a Sunday
Kristy - I don't know how to love him from Superstar
David A - Tell Me on a Sunday from same
David C - Phantom title track or Tire Tracks and Broken Hearts from Whistle Down The Wind
Jason - I believe my heart from Woman In White

According to this
Quote:
“Following the announcement that Andrew will appear on the hit US TV programme “American Idol” we can confirm that the episode featuring Andrew will be transmitted in the USA on FOX (Tue. 8/7c) on April 22nd. Andrew will be guiding the contestants and as they perform a selection of his songs from the set of “Phantom the Las Vegas Spectacular” at the Venetian Hotel, Las Vegas.

Andrew will also perform live with the contestants on the results show which will be shown in the USA on FOX (Wed. 7:30/6:30c) on April 23rd.”

the songs will all be from The Phantom Of The Opera. It should be interesting!

I think this might mean the group number, surely there aren't enough Phantom songs for them all???

Yes, you may be right. I think that I misinterpreted it.

Nothing. ALW is a dreadful songwriter.
He gets far too much free airtime on the BBC as it is. Why on Earth would any idol/rock/pop singer need to sing his trite songs anyway???? What a pants week. If they ARE going to do musical theatre, they should have chosen Sondheim.

From what I gather, the actual mentoring sessions for each of the contestants with ALW will be taking place on the set of POTO in Vegas.

Three of the contestants wanted the same song so they drew for it and Jason got the song.

Mmmm cheese, you're making my hungry. *Drools*

The only one I'd like to see doing ADWD is David A, and that is because I think the song fits his style. Unless they seriously mixed it up I can't see it working for Brooke or Jason, it'd be a bit slushy for them. Close Every Door might be a slightly better choice.

I'm now sitting here trying to work out how David C could rock out to ADWD I mean, he just might, he's doesn't really go for the obvious option.

I hope he doesn't, it'd all go a bit rock opera (or at least that's how it's sounding in my head). I'm getting flashbacks to when I went to see the Queen musical. But what do I know, he'd probably do a good job of it.

Though it's the 'a crash of drums, a flash of light, my golden coat flew out of sight' bit that I can't imagine sounding remotely credible for him (or anyone).

David C is probably going to surprise us, again. I don't expect any of the big AWL classics. But who knows ..

Think he'd do well with Oh What A circus from Evita

The obvious choice for David Cook would be Judas singing Jesus Christ Superstar. ...

... but he could go for something less obvious.

I'd like to see Carly to 'Memory' from Cats

I can see ALW flooring most of them if they try to sing any of his POTO or later stuff. Better to stick with the Joseph, JC Superstar, Evita period, none of them are musical singers.

That said, I'd like Carly (assuming she's still in it, unlikely) to sing Our Kind of Love from Beautiful Game - it's perfect for her and it doesn't matter no one in the USA will know it as you pick it up as soon as you hear it even if you can't stand it. The version released as a single was boring as they missed out most of the verse music, were she to include that, save time on repetitive chorus and head to the big ending, that could be great.

Well, I think David Cook needs to look to Jesus Christ Superstar, which is as rocky as ALW gets. The only question is what? I don't know that he'd be able to carry off Gethsemane (though I would fricking love it if he did) but he could do a lot with the main Jesus Christ Superstar theme. Or Heaven on their Minds maybe? Or perhaps he could do a rocked up version of Oh What a Circus.

I can't imagine David A doing anything other than Any Dream will Do. Unless Brooke wins the cat fight and she does it, in which case David will probably have to do No Matter What. *Vomit* to both scenarios.

I kind of hope that Syesha and Kristy get to stay as they have the kind of voices that suit this stuff. Unlike Jason, because WTF is he going to do? Anyone's guess. Anyway, either of them could do Memory, Another Suitcase in Another Hall, Tell me on a Sunday. I think that Syesha could do Don't Cry for Me Argentina and Kristy might be nice with Whistle Down the Wind.

And coming to Carly (my favourite) I think I Don't Know How To Love Him would be her best option. Or maybe Tell Me On A Sunday.

I would love someone to do High Flying Adored (from Evita) because that's my favourite ALW song, but I'll file that possibility under 'unlikely'.

I'm sure a read on one of the forums that David Cook has done some Musical Theatre training in the past ... as part of his college studies.

or Close Every Door and at the end of the performance the other contestants will run onto the stage and rip his coloured coat off his back as he goes for the glory note.
