Definitely an all girl bottom 3 tonight
Sidespin Nid
16-04-2008
I've watched the performances now :

Brooke : Totally wrong choice of song for her and the vocals were dreadful. Simon is right , her voice was too weak for that song. The performance was too breathy and you could actually hear it which was a bit annoying. Could be in trouble this week. 4/10

Carly : I thought vocally she was pretty good but she belted a bit too much. At times it looked like she was smiling which was odd for such an emotional song. Also , I think the belting took away the meaning of the song as it was just her trying to impress with the glory notes and so it robbed the performance of any emotion. 7/10

David A : Boring , safe and predictable. I don't think the guy's ever taken a risk in the competition. I didn't understand the praise given to him as I thought the performance was weak vocally too. Yawnworthy  3/10

David C : I liked how he didn't stick to the original arrangement as it made the performance original. I thought he was a little off in his lower register but in the middle of the song it was really strong and the ending was really good. I think he's definetely the winner now. 8/10

Jason Castro : The performance was too slow for me. I personally was bored from the very beggining and it never really gathered pace for me. I didn't think the song choice was right and I don't see the fuss about this guy. Still , I think he's safe. 5/10

Kristy Lee Cook : I think she did choose the right song and did the best she could do with it but the performance didn't seem to "do" anything. Vocally it was a bit shaky at the start but the bigger notes were quite solid. I really like this song and I think Kristy sang it well enough but I don't know if well enough is good enough at this stage of the competition. She was the best out of the girls though and is the only girl who's improving so I hope she stays. 7/10

Syesha Mercado : I hadn't heard of this song before so I didn't really know if she sang it well. Now I've listened to it I think that Syesha was really below par. The song choice and the performance was very dull and forgettable and she sounded screechy at times. The ending was strong though but I didn't know when the song ended so the performance wasn't captivating IMO. In trouble this week. 5/10

I think:

Bottom 3 (any of the 4 girls essentially) :

Brooke
Syesha
Carly

Elminated :

Brooke

I think the bottom 3 will be VERY shocking. Trust me And it's not an all girl one (as that would not be shocking!)

Anyone noticed David A singing songs that Leon sang on the X Factor- Long and winding road, when you believe. What next? Home?

If you're trying to imply a certain male with a surname begining in C and ending in OOK is in the bottom three please don't, my nerves will never stand it

David C is gonna win IMO. If Jason is in the bottom 3 then it's fine

According to DialIDol:
- The Davids won't be in the bottom three.
- Jason and Kristy may be in the bottom three but won't be eliminated
- Carly may be in the bottom three and may be eliminated
- Syesha and Brooke will be in the bottom three and may be eliminated.

According to their prediction range, they have been accurate so far. Michael wasn't the last on the list, but was a possible elimination.

Michael wasn't even bottom 3 last time, which is part of the reason it came as such a shock. I know I shouldn't fret about Cook, but the only real two shocks for the bottom 3 is either of the David's

The show is from 9 to 10 PM east coast time, 4 hours behind us, so it will be 2 am here when the show finishes.

He was bottom 3. He was in yellow, along with Carly & Syesha, and Brooke.

What is important with dialidol is not the ranking but the range , and on this they have been accurate so far.
I think that Jason bottom three would be a shock as well because he had a good performance this week and he has a large fan base.
I really expect three out of the four girls to be bottom three this week, probably Brooke, Syesha, and Carly. Brooke or Kristy should be eliminated, but unfortunately it may be Syesha.

David A--clear,even 'pretty', but very weak vocal . I couldn't help but notice the carefully helpful effects and mix of the vocal in the song to give the impression of a thicker tone and more power than he actually has when he attempted to belt.He retained his tone, but just barely and
only with help from Mr Soundtech. He has some agility, but not enough to manage the runs he was trying. The falsetto was frankly messy . He really showed the limmits of his voice tonight...performance wise, it was okay.vocally it was also just okay. Obvious song choice, decent job on it.Easy to see the imitative-ness of other performances from other shows.

Carly---Okay, the thing with this is, if you really listen, her vocal was about as 'naked' and effects free as it could be.She was nowhere near Mariah performance wise, not connecting enough with the song, although the performance was okay. Having said that, her vocal was extremely good. She stayed within her range and belted the right way, with power and retaining her tone . Her tone was fantastic throughout, considering how exposed her
vocal was left throughout the whole song.Good choice, okay performance, very good vocal.

Syesha---this was gorgeous, and pretty close to flawless, with just one place where she lost the melody for a second. I find it amusing that Simon is reluctant with his praise, yet he fell all over Leona , who Syesha sounded very much like and was easily as good as this week. (Both are pretty and are technically very elegant singers with beautiful tone and excellent control who are polished and have reasonably big
and similar ranges is why I made this comparison). She made a smart choice with this song that showed the best of her abilities. She looked great, too. She seemed to really get into the song, as well. Performance wise, this was good, and vocally great.

Brooke..sounds like she really is having some problems with her voice. Technically, her vocal was not good, but she has one of those unique voices where it is still enjoyable to listen to...usually....this just didn't work for her. The start was good, but toward the end, she sounded like she was in a hurry to get the performance over with. The magic just was not there, and without it, her performance just wasn't
working on any level.Vocally not good, performance wise, half good/half not good.

Kristy...vocally, this was all over the place. She needs to get control of her voice. Her tone is too brittle and thin to belt with the force she was pushing for on the chorus, and she needs to really focus to not fall off the melody on the verses. On the notes that were within her range that she heald on to, I heard a passably good voice. If she would have calmed down, left out all attempts at the melismatic parts she lacks the agility to manage, and focussed on her tone rather than trying for power, this could have been better than it was.Performance wise, she did well this week. Vocally, mix of good and awful with potential to be better.I liked that she performed this song, as it's the one I thought she'd do best at.

David C....and the 'Daughtry treatment ' begins tonight....(hothead camera angles, amped up, extra attention to the light show)....having said that, it was vocally very good, verging on great, and for what he did with this song, very good was good enough and then some. He may be a chosen one, but this rocked(never thought 'rocked' and
'Always Be My Baby' would go in the same paragraph) in a weird way all the same, and I really really enjoyed it. Vocally smart and made the most of what he can do, interesting variations in tone, and this just totally worked. Even though the extra 'help' via 'Daughtry Treatment' was unfair, it was also unnecessary, because even without the'help' this performance would have been the best of the night. This week, he got everything right. Great job, David C!..vocally very good, performance-wise,great.

Jason--bad start with the poorly executed(in both senses of the word) falsetto and pitchy notes, but improved quickly. Not bad, but nothing great here. It was like watching a busker try to impersonate Enrique Iglesius(sp?)...then he went back into the poorly done falsetto again. He did manage to perform it reasonably well. Vocal-okay, performance-reasonably good as far as playing to his target audience.

The guys definitely had the advantage this week in being less likely to be compared to Mariah, although none really sounded similar to her. Syesha was closest to sounding Mariah-esque, but she was good enough to manage it.

Best of the night--tie between David C and Syesha. Vocally, Syesha was by far the best, but David C was vocally very good and his performance was fantastic.
Carly was next best, and the rest were just okay, although Brooke had a particularly bad week.
David A and Kristy were both okay this week in that Kristy performed well and David A was reasonably good vocally on yet another safe song choice.Jason was just kind of there.
Brooke, although I really like her, was definitely the worst this week.

Bottom 3 in my oppinion=Brooke, Jason, Kristy.Overall, any could go, but if based on this week alone, Brooke, although I like her , really let herself down and deserves to go based on that performance.

Mr Predictor, the bottom 3 isn't that shocking, there is always someone in to stir things up at this point.

Brooke was appalling, I've never been a fan of hers and I don't see why she gets praised a lot. Her voice is just not good and she rushed through the song. David A, Syesha, Jason and Kristy were all mediocre. Carly I thought was really bad too. The only great performance was David C; I love the song and he completely made it his own and it had such an epic feel.

She's run her course really and she is not really very good away from the one sole thing she does well. She gets praised because in television terms she is different from what's gone before so they want to keep her in. She's likeable though less so now she's said so much about herself, too much indecision and trying to please. And she was very good at the start but now she's up against much better singers and the most likeable personalities. But AI exposes you - she doesn't have what I call a competition voice, one that makes you want to get up and vote. Neither has Jason IMO, there are never spectacular moments in the showstopping sense, it's too subtle.

I think that Brooke seems to be struggling with the stress of it all more and more as the weeks go on.

She used to be my favourite girl performer and I think that her earlier performances were very good. Now you can see her physically shaking and she seems close to tears all the time, which is a shame.

I'm no doubt in the minority here, but Jason is my favourite .... I love his recording voice and constantly play the ITunes downloads of his performances.

David Cook is my second favourite, but last night wasn't my favourite performance by him, but I'm sure he'll go on to be in the final.

Perhaps I'm missing something, but I don't see what the judges see in David A, I find him to be an alright singer, but don't see any sort of star quality or anything different in him.

I'm the same, I really liked her up until she did Jolene - I was quite shocked at how she failed to connect to the song, what should have been a vulnerable, heartbreaking performance turned into a jolly singalong around a camp fire with her grinning at the audience, since then I've felt she's lost it - it's a same because I really liked her as a mature, focused singer.

I had a quick listen to Cookie's version of ABMB this afternoon on You Tube and I thought he was very good. I look forward to seeing the whole show in the UK here tomorrow.

Singy Thingy, thanks so much for your ever eloquent summarisation of the contestants performances. I always look forward to it.

We are almost always on the same page in terms of your assessment of their musical ability and some of the technical areas which I sometimes do not pay so much attention to.

Either way if Syesha goes tonight I will be happy with that. I believe she has a great career ahead of her.

For me and many of her fans she brought something special to the competition which is not about belting out a song so much but a beautiful tone and colour to what she sang. Above all her beautiful smile lit the room even when she was discredited. That's the essence of who she is and has to bring to her music/modeling/acting/dancing.

If my run of successful favourite AI contestants continues then I see a bright star in the making.

Regards

Babeth
