Hiya folks, this seems like the most likely forum to post this on, but as a newbie, I accept I may be wrong.....if so, can someone point me in the right direction please!

I am looking for advice on moving an ariel point in my house. Due to some DIY work in the house, I am moving my TV to the other side of the lounge....but how do I do it?

I'd like to keep any wiring "inside" the wall, and making holes if required is ok, as that specific wall needs plastering anyway.

So yup, any ideas?

Cheers

Is the new aerial point on an outside wall?

If it is, you could call on the services of a professional and they would run a new cable from the aerial to the new position of the socket.

If not, you could chase out the wall from entry point and then re-plaster.

Or you could extend the cable yourself running it either inside/outside the property, whichever you find is the most convenient.

If it is not viable to re-route the cable from the outside straight into the new socket location then it needs to be chased in to hid completely. Obviously take care when doing this as you will have mains cable in the wall. They are usually fed to the power points vertically either up from the floor or down from the ceiling. To hide the chasing it is usual to get the walls re-plastered with a thin scree after rough filling the chasing to just below the wall level.

In some modern houses the plaster board may be fitted onto batons or attached with plaster 'dabs' which means it may be possible to feed cable through the small air gap between using an electrician's mouse. I recently moved an aerial, phone and network point in my house by this method though it was not without it's difficulties as I had to go up and around a double doorway. The chasing out method is actually less fiddly.

cheers for the info guys.

Just to confirm, it is an outdoor ariel that I want moved. Your comments tell me that it may be too much hassle for me to do this myself!

any ideas how much I should expect to pay to have a professional do the work?

Once again, thanks.
