Sony HDD recorder EPG

Anyone know why my recorder won't download the EPG. It's supposed to happen at 3 in the morning but all I get when I wake up is EPG on the LED display. All the "trouble-shooting" section of the manual says is "take the plug out for 10 seconds". That doesn't work. Anyone come across this problem?

It must be switched to standby - if it's turned ON, then it won't ever download it - this is mentioned in the instructions, but it takes some finding, and if you didn't already know about it, you wouldn't understand what it said.

If it is already in standby, then check where it's set to download from - should be analogue ITV.

Yes, I'm assuming he has an 870 HDD/DVD with the GuidePlus EPG? - if you can get Freeview you have the option to use either - but if you can't get freeview the analogue EPG is the only choice.
