USB to Mac

I thought connecting my Topfield 5800 PVR to my MacBook would be a simple case of plugging up the USB cable. It isn't. Any ideas? What do I need to do?

MacTF is what's needed I think.

Or MPEG StreamClip (www.squared5.com).

MacTF is a good, and can even be AppleScripted but it does just the file transfer. I have a nagging feeling that it might not be 100% compatible with the latest OS, but I'm not sure.

MPEG StreamClip can do the file transfers and also conversions too; plug the Toppy in, ensure Altair is enabled in the Prefs, and click Files on the Altair menu to see what's on the Toppy.

You can upload or download and you can even do some fancy stuff (if you have the QuickTime MPEG2 component which is about 15 quid). For example, you can open a file while it's still on the Toppy, and drag the timeline to move to a particular part, and mark in or out points - and then click download to just download that part of a file. Or even mark the cuts for ad breaks, plus in and out points, and then choose to save as MPEG with MP2 audio.

MPEG StreamClip will then do the seeking in and out, cutting, and convert to MPEG on the fly, as it sucks the data out of the back of the Toppy, so you only download what you need, and the resulting file can be dragged straight into Toast to make a DVD.

Or you can just download, and then edit the file on the Mac, which is more responsive, naturally. And for some types of file, you can open with StreamClip, then choose Files from the Altair menu, click the Upload button, and the currently opened file will be converted to Topfield.rec and uploaded to the PVR in one operation.

It's miles, miles better than the PC version of the app.

Thanks all. I'll give those a go.
