Mine is my steamer - my Aunty introduced my Mum to steaming (and although she never bothered) she bought me one

I've never looked back, Mum has since bought one and I bought one for my M-in-law who thought I'd lost the plot - and she wouldn't look back either.

Also, my potato peeler - I couldn't peel veg with a knife

A steamer is a utensil?

I'd say wooden spoon

Good question.

My Microplane grater for grating Parmesan, garlic and occasionally my fingers.

My special deformed wooden spatula which warped in the dishwasher and is now somehow the perfect shape.

My sushi rolling mat.

My most USELESS utensils on the other hand...

My French bean de-stringer

My icing bag set which is probably older than some posters on this board, yet which still has never been taken out of its plastic wrapping.

My ornamental wine bottle stopper for half-empty bottles (haven't ever needed it!)

And just to get back on topic, one more favourite utensil:

My extremely sharp multi-purpose Global knife.

Ooh, I don't think I'd be able to live without my veggie peeler, my measuring spoons or my potato ricer.

I've got a wee knife I bought in poundstretchers for £1.99 - I've had it for about 12 years, and its still fab

I'd say top item, number one required tool = a good sharp knife.

I have my chef's set from when I was at college, had them over 20 years now and I would be lost without them.

Why shocked?

Sometimes I want a garlic puree, eg in some curries, and for that, my grater is perfect.

Other times I might squash a garlic clove or two into oil and fry lightly (and remove after) if I just want a hint of garlic, eg in a pasta sauce.

And sometimes I slice and chop garlic with my sharp knife if I want to taste the garlic more strongly.
